Sexy Italio Disco Sunrise at GCDS

Dateline: GCDS SPRING SUMMER 24 “MEDITERRANEO” Fashion Show. Milano, Italy. September 22, 2023

GCDS first caught my attention with their last runway show that featured Spongebob and Patrick Star. SpongeBob SquarePants is My granddaughter-Adalyn and my favorite show to watch on a lazy Saturday morning on Oahu.

GCDS’ founder and creative director is Giuliano Calza. And the GCDS acronym stands for Giuliano Calza Design Studio. Pink is their signature color. In 2017 CGDS had their international debut on an amazing Pink Runway. They propagate our world by fusing pop culture, the Luxe-Life and Italian craftsmanship into one big bold cutting-edge creative collective.

In 2020, GCDS led the way with the first runway show in the metaverse. Virtual attendees included: Amina Muaddi, Dua Lipa & Hello Kitty, all sitting in the FRONT row!

Many celebrities enjoy this sophisticated high-end streetwear label including: Beyonce, Sophia Loren, Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.

in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, GCDS was the first brand to put on a runway show in the metaverse, earning the digital cover of Dazed. Sealing the digital show’s success were Amina Muaddi, Dua Lipa and Hello Kitty, among others, sitting (virtually) in the front row

Vivienne Westwood’s London in Paris

Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood. Saturday October 1, 2022. Paris, France. S/S23.

In the Audience: Halsey, Doja Cat, Coco Rocha and Evan Mock. Models included: Bella Hadid, Irina Sayk and Stella Maxwell.

It’s fun to catch a Runway show live as it happens. It’s like watching a Football game in real time compared to taped. It’s in the moment, gives an extra punch of excitement and just feels right. That’s how I watched the VW SS23 show on October 1st 2022.

Court Jesters, Harlots, Nobles, Commoners, a bit of Oliver Twist and a Bright Yellow Bird!

The show was in Paris, yet oozed with England’s vast culture and history. The renaissance, the swinging 60’s, a swanky sometimes campy essence. Giving the viewer some Oliver Twist and King Arthur vibes with many Easter eggs filled with Viviennism’s.

The clothes were interchangeable between male and female. And many wore 60’s vibing brown crocodile Go Go boots with extremely high heels ala Rick Owens. Every time the models walked the stage it was like they were about to topple over. And one model did make a quick ditch to the floor. Yet popped back up with resounding cheers from the attendees.

Super slick wet hair was the norm and a bit of Paris was inserted with the man with the spiked hair and make-up to provide us with the Tour d’eiffel.

Bella Hadid with the sprayed on dress has been the Fashion moment of the year happening just a day before the show. During this Runway she makes boxing gloves fashionable giving you a Warhol x Basquait moment.

Was a fun show, part was because it was live and part because there was so much of Vivienne Westwoods England entranced throughout the show. Let us know what you thought of this show or this years Paris Fashion week. Comments section below is always available 24/7 for comments, questions and mini reviews.

Balenciaga’s Brave New World

Balenciaga 360 Show Winter 22 Collection

Photo by Ruu015fen Ali on Pexels.com

Wowza! Demna is on fire and as cold as ice.

The Balenciaga show is set in a monochromatic cavernous area, maybe a hockey rink? With man made snow drenching each and every model as they try and traverse the complicated terrain. Inching ever closer to the promised land. Dressed in blacked out everything-shirt, jacket, pants, boots, cap and sunglasses. With the white snow, the blacks pop so ever nicely.

They have slick extra wet hair to match their surroundings as they push further into the exterior boundaries, fleeting through their snowy escape, to some-where and no-wear. Drawing on the past of Demna’s experience in the 1993 Russia x Georgia war, brings this show into the here and now with what is happening in Ukraine.

On a happier note, I can’t wait until we see people paying $1,500 for their own Balenciaga Garbage Bag. Be it in Black, White, Powder Blue..or I could even see a limited edition version done up with the yellow and black Balenciaga caution tape. Now, that would be a bag to have. And will make Balenciaga an even bigger bag filled to the brim with cashola!

To get the look on the cheap will be super easy, unlike other replicants that can take months to make, you just need some standard Hefty bags and some oversized sunglasses.

In a way I missed seeing what the crowd was wearing, but at the same time, it didn’t matter much with a show this extraordinary.

The show is brilliant, amazing, emotional, in the now, pure genius level idea and execution.

This is not just a show of clothes or a great setting in the snow. It’s a moving, emotional portrayal of what some are going through or witnessing in their worlds right now. (March 2022)

Highlights:

  • The triple Blacked out black on black on black clothing and accessories
  • Black and Yellow Balenciaga Caution Tape
  • The setting and the music
  • The man-made SNOW!
  • The models method acting their walks..some off balance, some even looked a bit tipsy, wonder if anyone fell?
  • The oversized sunglasses, chokers and earrings. Loud and Big, great to show off in
  • Quadruple pocket shirts
  • Bellowing black Goth Capes
  • The Garbage bags: It will be fun to see who purchases their thousand dollar Kitchen bag

Lowlights:

  • The Frilly fringe textured pant suit
  • Dangling western wear strands of materials
  • Awkward over sized black boots. That snow is gonna go straight into them, making your feet very wet and cold
  • The Garbage bags: Will people really carry these around? The answer is YES, they will and they will pay $1500 or more to do it. Hopefully they will add some gold Balenciaga garnishes to the finished product

Music: Like 3 chapters in a book or 3 phases of a speech, the music adds to the ambiance of the event. It’s an element that is needed to convey the message and vibe of the show full circle.

David Kadouch-Slavonic Dances in E Minor: Beautiful poignant classical music. Filling the senses with serenity and peace

BRFND-360: Some hard core techno to blast you out of your arm chair to take action in your life world and affairs.

BFRND-Storm: Slightly cheesy 90’s rave culture. Lets get to the promised land now to be happy. Or be happy now wherever you are, whatever you are doing. Its your mind that puts you into your emotion, not the outside circumstances. Be happy now wherever you are, even in the midst of chaos, war or a bad snow storm.

A show for the ages, ageless, past, present and future!

Discord in the Dystopian Sea

The Ocean, the Beach + Rick Owens

Rick Owens Runway Show Paris Fashion Week Fall Winter 2021/22

The New Normal is a Nickel Plated Slate Grey Dystopian World-Scott Mackenzie

Rick takes us to a deserted beach in the middle of Winter to show his post covid collection of super long sleeves, multi mega ripped cat suits, and clunky heeled boots. The bone skinny models fitted in comfy down jackets, saunter flawlessly across the stark cement runway. While small cold waves crash into the sand. Can you feel the chill? Are you ready for Dystopian Chic Blade Runner Gentrification?

I like it when Rick sticks to what he does best-High end clothing with unconventional yet wearable cuts in greys and blacks. It was nice to see the greys and blacks back in action at this show. Although, some of those ultra long sleeves and skirts skimming the pavement would be quite challenging to wear crossing the street at 45th and Madison. I do suspect the sleeves and skirts will shorten a bit by the time the collection appears in store or on-line. All in all a solid Rick Owens show. Showing some classic looks along with exaggerated fits created more for publicity and not actual wearing.

The creativity of using the pre-made rock path as the runway was probably the biggest hit of the show. And gives ideas to other designers to take the runway to unconventional locations throughout the world. Where I live on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, it gives me ideas to stage a show at Kualoa Ranch/Jurassic Park, on a cracked sidewalk in Downtown/Chinatown or maybe even the top floor of the Walmart parking lot across from where I work.

#Gethsemane

Listed below are the Highlights and Lowlights. See you at the Beach!

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The setting. A built in Runway surrounded by the cold ocean at a beach with No people
  • Behind the Scenes action. Fun to see the crew getting the models ready to walk
  • The Music: Fit the cold stark eerie mood of the setting
  • Greys and Blacks
  • The PInk Hair. It would be more spectacular with some more hair colors like: popcorn yellow, bleached blue and neon green.
  • The Multi -Mega ripped catsuit and dress
  • Blade runner dystopian theme throughout

LOWLIGHTS:

  • The Giant shoulder pads
  • Aqua sequins
  • Behind the Scenes acting up: The people were all too stressed out and moving too quickly. The show was doing fine with a nice mellow feel, then Bam! They acted like it was the end of the world.
  • The Music: Could have added in a bit of drum and base and mixed it up a bit
  • The skirts that flowed out at the knee
  • Bellowing smoke at the tip of the runway

Alexander Wang Spring 2016 Runway Show

The Right Way to Wear and Wang It

Pre Show Atmosphere

Looked like more people than usually were allowed at such a show. Crowd was also pretty mixed, Foreign press dressed in long Khaki Rain Coats, The Brunette Fashion Gals all staring at their phones, Some various people looking a bit lost? For some reason and not really dressed for the occasion, Lots of Hi-End Kicks on guys and gals along with the pseudo anti-establishment group in their very new yet slightly beat up Converse Kicks. Looked like FREE cocktails were very available. And with close attention, the best foreshadowing fashion flair I noticed were various people dressed in both Horizontal and Vertical grey and black striped shirts and skirts. Some looked planted and others just were wearing it, maybe to support the AW 10th Anniversary?  (Later in the show we will see thicker vertical striped pants in grey and black along with my favorite horizontal brown and black striped pants).

Pre Show Set-List:

  1. Rihanna-Pour It Up
  2. Fetty Wap Feat. Monty-My Way
  3. NAS Feat. Lauryn Hill-If I Ruled The World (Imagine That)
  4. Rick Ross-Bandz
  5. Various Drums
  6. The Weekend Feat. School Boy Q, Rick Ross-Often (Explicit Remix) Mixed up with Sirens to get people to settle into their seats for the Runway Show
  7. Drake-10 Bands (Lights dimmed then went completely Dark before Start of the Show).

The Show

More Color than I expected. Especially on the Female models, one actually was dressed all in Pink! Overall a fun show with mostly wearable clothes.  Horizontal striped pants stood out on the guys. And layered with various textures stood out on the Ladies. Red Shoe laces on some nice looking black and sometimes white kicks were very visible.  Here is a snapshot of the Looks.

Grey is the new Black

Thom Browne Men’s Fall/Winter 2014-15 Fashion Show

Like two shows in one. First half is various shades of grey. Second half is the Court Jester Balloon jacket and pants show. Enjoy!

Highlights:

  • Grey:  There is still time before Fall/Winter 2014-15 to get your grey on. This show validates a theme we’ve been talking about on Streetzblog for a while now. Grey or shall we say Gray? is the BIG color for Fall/Winter 2014-15. Here we see many different shades, various materials and even a grey plaid fish shown to us all many times throughout the show.
  • Textile Mix Tape:  OnTrend with the mixture of different types of plaids, shades of grey and other types of materials all in one look. It maybe an ode to the Eco Friendly Fashion Future of re-purposing clothes or just looks very hobo-chic Ala Mode of the moment. Either way, it’s way Dope!
  • Built in BackPacks:  Ok, so this is taking the Back-Pack to another level. First they look like the back packs blend into the jackets. Then it seems that they are actually built right into the jackets. Either way, very cool. Nice subtle eye-catching detail. Hey-you wouldn’t lose or forget to bring your gear with you when it’s always with you built into your jacket. Nice for the multi tasking always on the move 21st century man.
  • Setting:  The Magical Forest? Alice in Wonderland? An ode to the upcoming Grey, Gray World? Interesting, the fish and other animals are quite fun to see. Not sure about the animal hats and head dressings on the models. It does give the runway a bit more of a theatrical presence, just a bit scary.
  • Shoes: Grey with black soles. Time for a change from the Black Kicks with White soles. Just when I thought I didn’t need another pair of shoes and these are getting ready to come out.  I would like to try a comfortable high top with a cushy black crepe sole. My feet still hurt and I really do need to find something that is comfortable. Thom sure isn’t being understated about the Grey trend. It’s seen everywhere from Jackets to Trousers, Fish to Shoes. Grey will be the new black for Fall/Winter 2014-15.

Hair it is-Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne Westwood Men’s Fashion Show F/W 2014-15

The men’s hair is so much fun in this Fashion Show, so plastic, so perfect, so much like a Weeble or a Ken Doll’s hair. That’s my favorite reason for posting this show. Wonder If I could get that look at home for a night out on the town..Wouldn’t that be fun!

Similar themes to other Men’s and Women’s  F/W 2014-15 shows are the Grey and Camel Colors that have been a recurring theme. Other trend that is continuing is the ever morphisizing of the Men’s shoe.  More fabulous colors, styles and crafting showing up in this similar to other shows in 2012-15. Check out the bright orange tassel shoes or some of the other multi colored kicks. And as color blocking was so big in 2012-13 for women, looks like the menswear in 2014-15 is doing it too.

I do think the models walked a bit too fast for my taste, needed to watch some of it a couple of times to see everything. And I do agree with Vivienne, there just seems to be too many themes happening in one show. I would recommend and say: A fashion show should be  like a good :60 radio commercial with One central theme, or max of three mini memorable moments. Like I learned the first year I worked in radio-KISS.  Keep it Simple Stupid. Or whatever they changed that last S to make it more politically correct.

What do you think of the show or the F/W 2014-15 season in general?

BTW: I’m working on a new Hawaii Designs interview with Citystars Apparel. It will be ready to go sometime between March 01-August 31, 2014.  Just waiting on some more pictures and some special “Galaxy” Merch to get to the islands, then I’ll be ready to publish it.

See you on the Streetz.

Lanvin F/W2014-15 has Landed

Goth Vibe, Nice Digs, Cool Shoes

Highlights of this show include:

  • The Setting:  Stylish, Upper class, Beautiful, Greek, New Romantic, and Classic.  I expect a King or Queen to step out any moment during the show.  And then towards the end, they pan to the see-thru ceiling. I could for sure spend a day or two here. I bet there’s a Kings Thrown somewhere in the same building, maybe some crown jewels too!
  • The Shoes:  Green Shoes with matching shirts, Blue Shoes with matching attire, Orangish/Red shoes with a Red top and what looks like Silver Shoes, once again matching the clothing. I’m a shoe guy, thus the shoes and the matching clothes are very nice.
  • Long, Long Skinny Scarves:  Yep, they sure are long and skinny.  They add some what I would call “Style Francais” to the looks.  I just wouldn’t wear one out on the town while drinking cocktails, I would probably trip on it.
  • The Music:  Fits the setting very nicely. A bit Abstract, Lounge tinged with a bit of darkness to it.  Gives it a nice laid back, crunchy, pre and post Modern French Vibe to the show.
  • The Black and White Backpack:  When I was in NYC  in December, the Jordans I saw the most on people were the crisp, clean, Black and White with a tad of red-Jordan 13’s as worn by Denzel Washington in the movie, “He Got Game”. I think people wore them to stand out in the cold wintery weather or to blend in with the snow and street. This Backpack would go perfectly with those shoes.  It would also be nice to use to carry things to and from work, especially while wearing a classic black suit and a white button down shirt.
  • Oh and did I mention the Blue, Green, silver and Orangish Red Shoes?
