STAMPD 2017 Fall/Winter Runway Show
LA based brand STAMPD brought their A game to Men’s NY Fashion Week in February 2017. The Show entitled Asphalt Wave saw the STAMPD brand bring us a very nice silver bomber, a hint of electric color with the Yellow Hoodie and a bit of a 90’s retro look to the black plaid Shirt/Black Jacket and pants.
STAMPD brought us some of the best bomber jackets of 2015 with the various renditions of the Strapped jacket. The Silver jacket keeps them in the forefront of the 3 or more year trend of the bomber.
And staying true to their roots, kept a lot of the collection with their Black & White color palette. And looks like the cropped pants will continue into late 2017, maybe even 2018 from this show and others seen at the latest Men’s NY Fashion Week. The trend I’m noticing most is a higher crop, with more bulk to the legs.
Keeping to STAMPD’s street vibe, they didn’t do the traditional Runway show. Instead the dudes stood like mannequins on the floor and the attendees could walk around them to check out the new threads.
A bit of Graff and various textures and exotic materials added some newness to the STAMPD aesthetic.
And similar to the STAMPD/Daniel Patrick/Kanye West collections, kept the Nomadic Pre Apocalyptic street look going with this oversized layered grey piece. Probably my favorite look of the collection.
- As I see the title, I imagine skateboarding through the streetz of LA. With the title giving a nod to skate culture of the 90’s. Yet, the collection isn’t all 90’s so there’s most likely double meaning to the title. Asphalt gives a skater a much smoother glide than concrete. Yet waves can be smooth or pretty tumultuous. Looking way too much into the title. Maybe Chris Stamp is looking towards a hopeful Smooth 2017 with already known possibility of havoc on the way.
- Various sites on the web are giving Asphalt Wave gives reference to the Rap and Hip Hop vibe of the 00’s.
- Other sites mention the 90’s & the 00’s time periods.
- Or maybe, it just sounds cool and looks rad in gothic scripted Ink on various sleeves of black long sleeve shirts and trenches.
- Just one day (2/6/17) after I wrote this blog. STAMPD posted this information on what Asphalt Wave means on their IG. They must have been reading Streetzblog!
Fans of the brand and Celebs in Attendance
Fans of the STAMPD brand include: Kanye West, Nick Jonas, Usher, Justin Beiber, Will.i.am and Meek Mill.
Public School’s Dao-Yi Chow & Maxwell Osborne, Hip Hop’s Ja Rule and Fabolous were all at the show.
See you on the Asphalt Streetz!
Off White Goes off the Street
High End Street Wear Brand Off White known for their diagonal/Slant stripes and the word WHITE on the backs of shirts, usually in a Black and White Color-Way. Goes off the path a bit in their latest Fall-Winter 2017 Runway Show.
There are lots of Vans inspired Checks, Flowing/Swaying with the wind clothes, various colored denim and a few nice shirts with the diagonal/slant design and White on back long-sleeved shirts, made out of an exquisite fluffy type of material.
I suspect it was time to shuffle things up a bit. But with all the sold out standard Tees unavailable. I would have gone at least another year of the standard issue Off White branded diagonal stripes with the big WHITE on back shirts and pants. *With all the Sold-Out Off White clothing out there, might be tempted to get a $86 Knock off on Ebay, but the sellers seem a bit sketchy. Sizing is xs-XL and says most shirts fit all. That sounds pretty whackety Whack. So, maybe I’ll never get an Off White Shirt if the trend continues with things like this Runway Show.
We shall see if these looks catch on as HOT as all their other shirts and pants did over the last few years. In NY Dec 2015, Off White was the Biggest brand I noticed in NYC. This Year, Dec, 2016, what I saw most were those super long, most likely very warm, tres expensive Canada Goose jackets in Dark Blue. LInes down the street at their store and people grabbing for them right and left at Bloomies.
- The Long Sleeve Diagonal print with WHITE on back shirts with the fluffy material.
- The Bomber Jacket with the Orange block square pattern.
- The Music: Very spot on with the spoken word, underground Hip-Hop and Jazz, ambient soundtrack. It sounded exactly like 2 restaurants I ate in NY in December 2016. Seems like the world is going toward more of a background underground mix than the blazing EDM and banging industrial of the last couple years.
- The long plaid Men’s Jacket.
- The Vans inspired checkered shirts and pants. Let Vans do Vans. Let Off White do Off White. The limited Edition Chrome Hearts x Off White Tees at Christmas were also Vans inspired. Were a direct take off of their logo. Somethings going on with the 2 companies. Hmm
- The flowing/Swaying materials and vibe. Felt a bit old-fashioned not forward fashion.
- The lack of the standard Diagonal/Slant Designs with the word WHITE on back.
- The funny colored Denim.
- And the leave prints. I can go to Wal-Mart for some Leave imprinted camo for $49 instead of what will most likely be $490.
- Baggy pants. This is a trend I see a lot in menswear. I liked the drop crotch look, I liked the fitted suits, but me, I think I would look funny in baggie pants with wide leg holes. Maybe a 22 year old could pull it off, but I doubt it would work for me.
What do you think of the New Direction of Off White? Feeling it? Or not? Let us know in the comment section.
See you on the Streetz! This week I finally have a Saturday off, so hopefully hitting the beach, sleeping a bit and maybe some Yoga or even Chanting…if I get the courage to go to it.
Designer Spot-Light: Daniel Patrick
Soho, NY & Melrose, LA
High-End Street Wear Brand, Daniel Patrick is the Hottest shop in Soho, NYC in January 2017. Streetzblog will cover the brand and store in this blog posting. Before it, here’s the ascension to that moment: I have a bit of a set program when I hit the Streets of NY each and every December. This year being no different:
Friday: Stay at the Roosevelt Hotel. Say Hi to Alfredo, Check into the hotel, Get Dressed and head Uptown. Uniqlo for warm clothes, Aldo, H&M, Saks, Sephora, See The Rockefeller Tree, Barney’s (My Fav), Bloomingdale’s and get some food from Scott’s Deli. This year I added in the new Adidas Store on 45th and 5th and a couple other cool places
Saturday: Soho no matter what! Cold-hot, Raining-Snowing. This is where I go the Saturday before Christmas. Hit the Sample sales, H&M, Pink, Opening Ceremony, the new Rick Owens spectacular store, Astor Barber, Chinatown, Coffee from the deli (Extra Sweet, Extra Light: Since I’m on Vay-Cay) Rag n Bone, Anna Sui, Alexander Wang and All Saints. I Miss Canal Jean Company, Unique Boutique, and this year DRB-One of the best places to get Christmas presents, It was gone for good-some people didn’t get their presents this year, #Ugh.
It’s a little after Alexander Wang, that I strolled upon Daniel Patrick. Come to find out the store is pretty new in Soho, so was very lucky to find it. Listed below are some pictures I took, a bit about the brand and some flavorful pictures from their IG account. Hope you enjoy seeing and hearing everything. *I’ll post up NY’s Sunday, Monday and Tuesdays itinerary at the end of the article.
Daniel Patrick-Soho, NYC: 96 Grand St. Near Mercer; close to The Alexander Wang Boutique
I left the Alexander Wang Boutique and was attempting to get to the new Rick Owens store. Over the years, the maps on my iPhone have gotten better, but I still can’t quite figure out North from South, so I went around the block 2x and saw a nice looking facade with color coded clothing from the street view. So, I entered the Daniel Patrick store in Soho. I think I was the first customer of the day. Since I live in hot weather, I went straight to the shorts. Bought a pair of the Comfy Army Lounge drop-crotch shorts. At the end of the day, I came back for the black pair of the same shorts!
The store was filled with excellent High End Streetwear. Best part about it is it was all color coded and easy to find all the great gear. Comfy Shorts, Soft to the touch shirts, Layered clothing, Bombers, and even Kicks. Me being a shoe guy, it was so weird I didn’t even notice the kicks, the clothes were so unbelievable! After visiting the Soho Store, I’ve seen some nice shoes on their instagram account.
Arriving back in Hawaii, I researched the brand a bit and Wow! There are lots of Celebs and Hot Models who wear these clothes. Kinda’ fun the way I found the store. I’ve always worn my own style, but over the years, I’ve noticed many people getting extremely attached to what they see on the web. And I wondered how much I’ve been influenced too. Something I may blog about some day. Anyways, I liked how I found the store because I totally dig the clothing with no pre bias.
Here’s some great pictures of the brand: Pictures taken from their IG account.
If there were a place to get your streetwear basics plus stay on trend Daniel Patrick is the place to shop. Like shopping at the Gap used to be and kinda still is for Norm-Core, Daniel Patrick is the place for streetwear. You get your Blacks & Greys along with the seasonal colors. Everything feels good, looks good and is totally on trend and on Fia’ for a Friday night or Saturday afternoon. –Streetzblog December 2016.
Here’s a little excerpt from the DP Bio on their website that pretty much sums it all up:
The collections draw a number of inspirations that are true to who Daniel is and this identity becomes more and more poignant from collection to collection. Drawing inspiration from his favorite cities, Los Angeles and New York, his love of hip hop music and desert hikes, while also combining his athletic background with a minimal and militant appeal each collection unfolds. Daniel is continuously creating and tweaking and is known to drop new pieces more frequently than the regular fashion calendar dictates.
My personal purchases included: 2 pairs of the Roaming Shorts (Army & Black), Orange NYC Tee, and even though I live in a warm part of the world, I had to get the Black NYC Hoodie. I wore it everywhere, including Chicago and crashed out on the plane with it on all the way from Chi-Town to Hawaii. It’s my favorite item, very comfortable, kept my warm & the hood is the perfect sizes for hiding out. Just need a pair of shades to go with it and you’ll be an instant Celeb!
A couple more pix of the women’s gear:
For more on Daniel Patrick, check them out on-line, or in Soho New York City or in Los Angeles on Melrose. Their Instagram account is pretty LIT too. If you go to the NY store say Hi to Jay and let them know Streetzblog says Hello!
I could shop there all day, my wish list includes: The black denim trousers with the zippers and holes in the knees, a Black oversize Tee, The Ink colored Layered Tee, some of the darker camo clothing and maybe even a pair of Kicks.
*And here is the rest of the usual Trip to NY itinerary: Is there anything you would add to a trip to NY? If you have something, please add it to the comments section below. I’ll be there next December right before Christmas.
Sunday: This is always brunch day with friends from NY, it’s also cultural day where I go to a museum, see a play or the Knicks or Rangers, it’s also the first time I get a solid sleep.
Monday: I see my friend who used to live in Hawaii and either have lunch or go to the Knicks game. Check out Dover Street Market/DSM on Lexington, hit up Mood and the fashion district for great fabrics and accessories to make more clothes, then head back to Soho to make sure I covered everything.
Tuesday: Pretty much sleep, Eat at the Roosevelt’s All You Can Eat Buffet (Best Bacon and Fruit in NYC) do some last-minute packing, and rest before heading to Chicago.
See you on the Streetz!
Triple Five Soul, 555 Soul or as I best remember their name: Triple 5 Soul was not just a Streetwear brand but a whole urban lifestyle collab of DJ’s, Graffiti artists, Musicians, Skaters, & Break dancers. In the 90’s, Triple 5 Soul was one of the biggest and most successful Streewear brands around.
Fun Fact: The 555 Soul name comes from a then Popular telephone party line advertised and utilized in NYC. Most likely at 3 or 4am after a festive night of partying.
in 1989, Triple 5 Soul founder-Camella Ehike worked out of 151 Ludlow St. on the lower East Side of Manhattan. Ehike had a store front apartment with a sewing machine in the front and living area in the back. Like many creative’s she started making clothes she liked to wear for herself and her good friends. Between 1989 and 1996, Camella lived in her store and sewed everything. Her friends were very influential in the NYC Hip-Hop Scene and the clothes were so dope, the brand took off and demand became higher than supply.
Fun Fact: 555 Soul’s love beads were worn by early rap/house artists; The Jungle Brothers and Boogie Down Productions. BTW: Back in the day, this was 1 of the only House records we had out in Hawaii. I used to play it over and over and over on my record player at parties at my first condo in Waikiki. circa 1988-89.
Fun Fact: Fab 5 Freddy wore a Triple 5 Soul Tie Hat on MTV, which skyrocketed exposure of the store and sales. Here’s a bit of Fab 5 Freddy as host of Yo! MTV Raps.
Fun Fact: Mos Def was a friend of Ehike and the face of T5S’s first advertising campaign.
Fun Fact: Whenever Long Island’s Me Myself and I, De La Soul came to Manhattan they would stop by the shop and ask for some new clothes. Here they are performing their massive hit.
Triple 5 Soul later moved to 290 Lafayette Street, It was here that I would visit most Decembers.
Fun Fact: Banksky took over the front interior of the store. It was the 1st time anyone brought Banksky to NY. Now (2015/16) you can walk down many downtown streets and see his work everywhere. Especially in the area where the infamous Cronuts exist. I know I was there in Dec 2013 amazed at how much art he had put up around Dominique Ansel’s Bakery at 189 Spring St. Mabye Banksky knew how hard it was/is to get a taste of the elusive delicacies at least you could check out some interesting Street Art. Note: There’s also a fun looking basketball court next door to the Cronut Store. The day I was there, there was even a comp B-Ball to borrow.
Fun Fact: Graphic Designer/Skater Alyasha Owerka-Moore designed the original logo in exchange for a couple of hats!
Triple Five Soul is known for:
- What you would buy in New York in the 90’s to show you knew true Streetwear.
- Designed their own fabrics From Bohemian to Surf inspired.
- Sick Insta’ Street Cred Hoodies and luxurious Velour track suits.
- Dope Logo.
- Wool Cargo Pants.
- George W. Bush T’s
- 5 Deadly Venom shirts designed by SSUR’s Russell K.
- Graffiti pieces done up by infamous Graff artist, Stash.
- Backpacks that turned into Chairs.
- DJ Cases with Built in Wheels.
My Fun Fact: The Triple 5 Soul clothes were pretty pricey when I would visit NY, thus I owned ONE short-sleeved would be vintage now; grey T-shirt with Orange & Blue lettering. It had 3 hands on it doing some sort of sign language. I would wear it on the airplane from NY to Chicago at Christmas time. And whenever I wanted to feel like I was in the know about Streetwear in the 90’s. I remember it being very comfortable and quality made. Was one of my favorite shirts for about 4-5 years. And of course it was a Double XL-The Style of the time.
You can still find Triple 5 Soul on this website. But the most sought after items are the OG items from the 90’s. *Note: Looks like prices are the same or even less nowadays on their site. Kinda’ Wierd.
*Camille Ehike is currently running a modern bed and breakfast entitled, Breathe-Inn located in upstate New York. Contemplating a possible children’s line of clothing.
See you on the Streetz!
The Magical World of Fashion Designer Martin Margiela
See some of Martin’s most famous works. Thoughts on his life by Big Time Designers like Jean-Paul Gualtier and Raf Simons. If you like design, clothes, fashion, and style; this is a must-see video. My favorite part is when his friend says all he used to do was buy clothes at the expense of not eating. Sound Familiar? To me it does.
Watch and See the Magical World of Maison Martin Margiela. And where is he now? Hmmm. Seems we do not know. Any guess? I suspect he’s on his own private island filled with coconuts, scissors, paper, pineapples, pencils and lots and lots of shoes and clothes piled high like a volcano ready to erupt!
PSNY Brings the HEAT to Spring/Summer 2015
The Public School NY S/S 2015 Runway Show is delicious spectacle of impeccable tailoring, comfortable fabrics, a pleasing color palette for both men and women with a one-man band. Check out the show and as usual some of the Highlights and Lowlights are provided below the video for a quick snapshot of the show. You may be time starved and just want to read a quick take on the show. I know I get that way sometimes. Just want to read and run, especially on a weekday.
- The One Man Band: Wow! One man all decked out in Public School clothing sounding like a 5 piece band. He sings, plays guitar, tweaks the computer/synth machine to bring a full blown sound to the show all in the present moment.
- The Color Palette: Black and White, Grey and a bit of Cobalt blue. What else do you need for the perfect Health-Goth look! *I read somewhere, not sure where, but have heard rumour that PSNY may explore a new color or 2 in Fall or Winter 2015-16.
- The Materials: The fabrics practically speak the word comfortable.
- Shorts: My personal favorite are shorts that are cut just below the knee. PSNY has them in black, grey and white. Nice!
- Sexy: The females have skirts cut at the perfect length for Summer. And that grey dress with the little mid-riff slit near the end of the show is pretty slick.
- Hats: Not sure how they fit into the show. I guess they look alright on the ladies, but not quite a favorite look of mine for the guys. They’re kinda like old-fashioned flight attendant caps, yet in all black. Maybe it’s where I live, but it would be a hard look to pull off here. I suspect it would work better in Morocco, NY or maybe Paris?
- Shorts: Some were cut above the knee. I doubt the NY bred designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Cho would rock them above the knee, I know I wouldn’t,
- Where are the clothes?: Many times on streetzblog we write about things way ahead of time, thus the clothing typically isn’t ready to wear. Today, the show is S/S 2015 and the clothes on-line are S/S 2015. Yet, it’s hard to find the tailored shorts below the knee. Maybe they’ll be available later in the Summer. Note to shoppers: If you like anything you see on the Public School website, it’s best to buy it when you see it. Many of the M, L and XL’s disappear pretty quickly. Today/Friday April 3rd 2015 there are lots of S and XS available. Not much else.
For more detailed in-depth information on Public School, check out this blog posting on Streetzblog. Or to get some info on the Public School x Jordan release go here. To get your grade A Street-Gear/Health-Goth/Perfect colored clothing, check PSNY out here.
See you on the streetz of Oahu this weekend and have a Happy Easter!
Taiwan based brand: JumpFromPaper has bags and accessories that appear to look like a cartoon image when pictures are taken of them on real people.
I truly wonder if My pictures would come out like this or not? Because they do have bags for Men. See Below:
At the moment (3/21/15) the bags from JumpFromPaper aren’t available in U.S stores, buy are purchasable in Europe, Asia and on-line here. When I went to the site, there were some comments on how you can also get some knock-offs at amazon.com for cheaper. But according to the reviews, it’s best to get the real thing.
The Real JumpFromPaper bags range from $30 for a small purse to $139 for a pink or purple Spaceman backpack. I suspect I would choose the $110 Adventure Backpack in grey, blue and white. BTW: The knock-offs I saw at Amazon start at $14.
These bags Look like fun! If it really does what the pictures look like it does, might be a great conversation starter. And oh, so super fun to share on Instagram…#nofilter needed.
I suspect it’s best to go with the real version. If I or one of my friends does get one of these. I’ll be sure to follow-up and let you know how they are. And how they look on Instagram
Rock or Not? See you on the Streetz this weekend at Ward Villages, The Pink Tie Ball and Le Bistro. Have an Awesome Weekend wherever you live!
H&M Brings the Space Age Swag
H&M Studio A/W-2015 Runway Show
The Grand Palais in Paris was full of celebrities, it-girls and supermodels as H&M showed their A/W Women’s Studio Collection. Super Style Swankster and Music Producer Caroline de Maigret was lucky enough to wear a custom silver jumpsuit, then DJ in a specially produced space pod doing a live DJ-Set that gave the good vibes to the catwalk show.
Upbeat, fun music lead the way with this stylish collection. Not far behind was the star-studded audience of Solange Knowles, Noomi Rapace and one of my favorite actors of the moment: Audrey Tautou. If you haven’t seen the movie Amelie, be sure to see it. A very Beautiful Day, positive, full of surprises, slightly Avante-Garde, very french portrayal of one women’s Quest for Love. If you’re feeling a bit down and out, it’s a really great pick me up-kick in the pants, get out of your pity party kind of movie; great for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Audrey is also known for Mood Indigo, The Da Vinci Code, La Delicatesse, Dirty Pretty Things and of course, Coco Before Chanel!
Super Models at the show included: Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Edie Cambell dressed in a combination of hipster 70’s influenced tie-dyes and a futuristic Apres Ski sporty collection. The Apres Ski styles remind me of an Audrey Hepburn movie I recently watched on TMC entitled Charade. It’s a pretty good movie, but the real star of the show are the fashions which are out of this world, I bet it was on the mood board for this collection.
Seems like we’re due for an announcement from H&M on a November H&M x (insert designer here) collaboration. My vote goes for another Alexander Wang Health Goth #2, his regular line is very nice, yet quite expensive. I would like this to be the collab, yet highly doubt this will be the announcement. Just hope it’s a duo gender friendly collection. Both Target and Uniqulo’s latest collabs have been 90% female based. Men are due for some Sassy & Stylish famous designer fast fashion soon.
Have a Beautiful Day!
HBA Spring 2015 New York Runway Show
Hood By Air or HBA for short is a New York City Based Street-Wear Brand that is Big on slapping their HBA inititals and Hood By Air name on many of their pieces. In 2014, wearing a Nice large block lettered HBA shirt, moon boot or pants is a lot like wearing a classic logo’d DKNY sweatshirt back in 1994.
Let’s take a look-see at the Spring 2015 Men’s and Women’s Hood By Air Collection.
Grey Hi-Top Kicks: These are worn throughout the show. Untied, Tied, pants tucked and untucked. From the Runway show these look like a winner. Subtle grey, yet a bit oversized and just enough embellishment to pop.
Military Jacket: The model with the crutches rocks an extremely nice military style jacket in a perfectly layered look.
1990’s High School Chic: I really dig the style on the female model that has the slouchy black long sleeve shirt with the ripped, worn and torn white jeans. The two pieces are quite different, yet work very nicely together.
Accessories: Check out the dog/human collars on the models. Slightly creepy, yet adds a 3rd or 4th dimension to the show. But don’t think too far into it, then it’s not as fun! And check out the locks and chains. I saw Madonna Rockin’ the Moschino brand lock and chain the other day and I tried it out about six weeks ago. It’s a fun trend, but man oh man, the chains can get heavy come 2:00 a.m. See picture below of Madonna and her Moschino necklace as seen on Jeremy Scott’s Instagram. And me in my silver and gold custom-made necklaces worn with a Streetzblog x Romeo Valentine How to Make it in New York collab shirt from a few years ago.
Added Flavor: When the crowd disperses at the end of the show, did you notice the HBA logo’s on many of the attendees. A nice touch, yet an expected flavor from a brand that knows how to get their Hood By Air out.
Tan/Khaki Kicks: Ugh, the ultimate worst color for sneakers ever. Might be ok for a desert boot, but not cool for sneakers. I wouldn’t even want a free pair of the Khaki Yeezy’s. Just not a good color for kicks.
The Music: A bit too slow for this show. And slightly eerie and creepy, which is ok, I just would have wanted it to be more up-beat. Try and watch the same runway show with one of these 3 tunes, see and feel the vibe change instantly and completely. The clothes even become more vibrant, powerful and splendid to wear! Music courtesy: Aesthetic Perfection-The New Black, Krystal System-I love my Chains and Youth Code-What is the Answer.
See you on the streetz of the Hawaii Fashion Month. Hopefully, if I finish work on time, I’ll be at the grand opening of the new Jimmy Choo in Waikiki on Thursday evening. And of course, I’ll be at the Alexander Wang x H&M launch either on-line, in-store or both. Have a nice Weekend.
Which Wang Will You Wear?
Today/Thursday October 16, 2014, the full Alexander Wang x H&M collection was shown at a runway show in NYC. You can watch the show here. Seen at the fashion show were Oscar-Nominated Interstellar star, Jessica Chastain, Charlie’s Angels star Justin Theroux, Entourage and American Horror Story’s Kate Mara, and Beyonce’s Sister famous for her elevator ride with Jay Z, Solange Knowles. Musical guests included: Diplo,Jesse Marco, Sharaya J and Missy Elliot.
Below are pictures of many of the women’s pieces all courtesy of Vogue. Check out the very definite Black, White and Grey color palette. These looks are best described as:
Urban Chic, Sporty Street, Wang Bang Broadway, Health Club to Goth Club, Mad Max Back in Black, Three Shades of Wang or Dark Vader Athletic.
Seems many of the pieces of the collection are unisex. Some of the looks worn by the ladies look like some great men’s looks and vice-versa. I’m still digging the black, white and grey color palette. And now the black reflective tape is looking very tempting too.Yet, I still have my eye on that grey Puffer jacket.
Here are some of the Men’s looks courtesy of whowhatwear.
I doubt I’ll need the rubber pieces, a bit too hot to wear in Hawaii. But many of the other looks are quite wearable here and around the world. I’m hoping there’s some black and grey combat boots for men and I’ve had my eyes on that black leather back pack ($249) since the early pictures came out. Remember, the Alexander Wang x H&M Gear drops on Thursday November 6, 2014 at over 250 H&M stores and on-line at H&M. Prices range from $10-$350. Which is your favorite look?
