Complex Con-stantly LIT!
Complex Con-November 4 & 5, 2017
Long Beach, CA-Recap from our Streetzblog on site LIVE correspondent and via Some great Insta-Nabs.
The Hottest street wear brands, designers and Hip-Hop entertainers converged in Long Beach, California November 4 & 5 at Complex Con 2017. Back in the Day, Complex was an up and coming magazine Founded By Marc Ecko. His own clothing brand having hit it’s Apex years earlier, Complex was an under the radar Street and trend mag, I would buy the day it came out. As the internet and social media blew up, the magazine lost it’s pages and the paper it was made on became much thinner.
Fast Forward to 2016 and the first complex Con occurred, some saying that there were 400 VIP tickets sold, the same source told us this year, there were close to 2,000 VIP tickets sold and over 50,000 in attendance! Who needs a magazine? When you can turn your brand into one of the top 3 go to spots for street wear, kicks and tech trends. And put on a Con that attracts the Biggest and Best cultural icon of our time! (BTW: Unofficially, The top 3 are Hypebeast, High Snobiety and Complex).
Complex Con 2017 had everyoone who is anyone in the Street game. DJ Khalid, Pharrell with NERD, M.I.A, Cam’ron, Wiz Khalifa, Skrillex Lil Yachty, DJ Mustard, Kid Cudi from How to make it in America, Maxwell Osborne & Dao-Yi Chow from PSNY, Chris Stamp from STAMPD, Travis Scott, Vince Staples, Action Bronson, Kobe Bryant, Yes Jules, Ben Baller & D’Angelo Russell. Along with the stars of the weekend: Off-White’s Virgil Abloh and Takashi Murakami. Here’s a few pix of the 2 making Sweet Custom T’s on the spot!
Our Streetzblog corespondent traveled from Hawaii to Cali on the sole mission to meet Murakami and buy a couple thousand dollars of his limited edition gear. She succeeded as you can see by this picture, along with an autographed book. (She did say it was a 4-5 hour line to meet him and another 2 hour line to get her things at the end of the day). I told her via text: Looks like it was well worth the trip and time spent in line. BTW: She also stood in the Off-White line, but after another 3 hour wait, missed the Limited Edition Hand screened shirts by about 100 people.
Number One Tip: If you go to Complex Con or another Big event like this. Go to your favorite booth/designer first then have fun at the rest of the event.
If I was there, I would have gone str8t to the PSNY area to make some custom Nike Air Force 1’s. Would have tricked out the special PSNY x Nike AF1 Hi’s. Here’s some pix from the special master class area, where attendees could customize their own AF1’s with PSNY.
Here are some of the Custom Nike AF 1’s made at Complex Con:
The Top left Silver pair was made by Maxwell Osborne from PSNY. Jeff Stamp from *STAMD stopped by and made a pair And check the bottom left with Virgil’s version along with pal: Macklemore. *STAMPD has recently released a collab with Hawaii’s own, Town and Country Surf/T&C Surf. Pretty cool and close to home.
Here are a couple of Sniper Wells from Streetzblog’s latest projects. Fluorescent Painting with matching custom Jordan 21 Kicks!
Our Correspondent scored us some nice pix from the event including Pharell heading up the steps, The Limited Edition Fools Gold Boxes going for $50, some attendees and art from Murakami and NERD. (Thanks Much for getting these and other great pix on today’s post!).
Pharell was looking pretty Swank with his matching bright orange hair & spiked Biker Jacket:
Hope everyone had a good time at Complex Con 2017. And much Mahalo to our special Streetzblog Correspondent for all the great pictures. *All pictures are courtesy Streetzblog Corespondent or from the Live Instagram feeds over the Nov 4 &5 2017 weekend. See you on the Streetz…Blog!
Complex Con Heat
The Hottest Heat on the Street’s in Long Beach November 4 & 5 2017
Complex Con is this weekend in Long Beach, CA. Everyday this week, the web has been flooded with drops so HOT they burn down the House! I can’t believe I am not there. Although, we do have a streetzblog correspondent at the event, we have yet to hear from her as of 8:20pm on Friday Night. If/When she checks in, I’ll post up some Live shots from the biggest Music & Street style event of the decade.
For now, here are some of the HOTTEST Heat, I’ve seen releasing this weekend at Complex Con!
Acronym x Nike AF1, PSNY x Nike AF1, Virgil Abloh x Nike AF1-All white all on fire. Plus maybe, the yellow pair of AF1’s. I nabbed that pic from the PSNY Insta-G live feed.
The shirt at the top of the page is also a must have. It’s a Takashi Murakami x Virgil Abloh, handmade by the two designers.
STAMPD is at the event along with X-Large, Creative Recreation, Adidas Originals, Extra Butter, Fools Gold, Kappa, Nice Kicks and so many more! I don’t have a picture of it, but somewhere I saw a rad reversible camo bomber by Alpha Industries that looks sweet.
For the full list of the marketplace click here. That’s just the Gear, DJ Khaled, M.I.A, NERD, Young Thug, A$AP Ferg, Gucci Mane and many more are performing. Check this link for the latest line-up of entertainers.
If you’re there, have some fun for me, hopefully our correspondent from Hawaii will check in with some more inside Deets. We shall see? See you on the Streetz!
Here’s the latest Sneak-Peek on the Streetzblog Bomber Jacket for December 2017. Starting to look Lit like the ESB! What do you think?
PSNY x Alpha Industries Bomber Drop
PSNY x Alpha Industries Olive Green Bomber
Checking Today’s PSNY IG, I came across these pix. It’s another PSNY x Alpha Industries Olive Green Bomber Drop. This time, it comes with a nice WNL (We Need Leaders) patch on the front. The pictures mention that it was released at a Party this past Tuesday (10/24/17). Looks like attendees were treated to some delicious PSNY x MOET & CHANDON champagne.
I checked the PSNY website and so far, I see the first PSNY Olive Bomber, but not the new version. Hmmm. Maybe Sunday or Monday it will hit the site. I did hear it may also be at Saks and/or Bloomingdale’s. I like this new version better with the WNL circular patch. What do you think of it?
Here’s a picture of my unfinished Holiday 2017 Bomber. See you in NYC and Chicago in December! Cheers, Aloha and See You On The Streetz! SM@SB
I’ll have the finished version ready by late November 2017 and will post it here or on the Streetzblog Facebook page. BTW: The bomber in black, dark blue or green is on trend again this year and for a bit of a change of pace, check out some of the plaid wool bombers hitting the stores this month and next. Plaid Bombers & Bold Plaid pants are in for Winter 2017 and Spring 2018.
H&M x ERDEM & The Cinema of Flowers
H&M x ERDEM Short Film (This Years November H&M Designer Collection Update 10/23/17)
Hmmm. The master marketers at H&M are tapping into even me with their glorious films and photos. Dark Grey and Black are my go to colors and the Alexander Wang x H&M was my favorite collection. Didn’t think I would want anything ERDEM with all the flowers I’ve seen. But, alas, they put out a pretty rad looking film and I’m thinking of stopping by H&M on November 2nd 2017 to check the goods.
Recently, I was consumed by the fast paced Biker x Raver Alexander Wang x Adidas Collection. Watching the video over and over, checking the IG every few days and next thing you know, I have a pair of Fluorescent Orange Kicks on my feet. They are super comfortable, but way too bright for me.
Then I watch guys playing street ball in a PSNY Video and Now I have a pair of PSNY x Jordan 15’s, which are quite nice looking, yet nothing I should be buying with a credit card.
Do videos, Film, IG pix get you in the mood to shop? It sure works on me.
This film is done by Baz Luhrmann- He directed Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, The Great Gatsby, Strictly Ballroom and created the TV show The Get Down.
The Film’s super models include: Saskia de Brauw, Imaan Hammam, Grace Hartzel, Fernando Cabral, Neels Visser and Tony Ward. The music is Hypnotized by Years & Years.
See you on the Streetz or Maybe, Perhaps, I suspect at H&M on November 2nd!
Public School’s Ready To Wear
Public School Update-June 2016
Public School NY/PSNY hit the runway on Tuesday June 7th with a combined Male/Female Spring 2017 RTW show. Not only did they show off their new creations, but both Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne wore the upcoming Public School x Air Jordan Low Swooshless kicks.
The low-cut sneaks have a high-end pebble leather upper, a white midsole, yellow sole and the color for the Olympics 2016-GOLD in the stitching, outsole and Nike Air Tongue Tag. No matter what they look like, I guarantee you they will sell quickly, most likely on the PSNY website later in 2016.
The Runway show had some nice mixtures of textures and colorings. Utilizing the iconic Black,White and Grey color scheme. Adding in some Forest Green and Beige. And don’t miss the new high-tops coming our way in Spring 2017.
My favorite look is this WNL mesh shirt and groovy slant grooved textured cut up trousers.
Many looks have the WNL – We Need Leaders patches and wording throughout the collection.
And some nice Electric Yellow intermixed with the black, grey, white, beige, green and just a bit of blue. And did you notice the guys in the white jumpsuits with the electric rubber yellow plumbing/dishwashing gloves whacking away at the cinder blocks? Probably some sort of message they’re sending us? Or just having some Public School Fun? Maybe shop class? What do you think?
See all the looks at here at Vogue. *All Pictures courtesy of Public School and vogue.com. I missed the show in person, was at sewing school.
Here’s a sneak peak at my latest creation. So Far, I’ve spent 21 hours, surging, pinning, cutting, inseaming, deseaming, pressing, and sewing. I hope to show the process and finished piece by June 21st. If you see it on the streetz..blog on the 21st you know they’re done, if not still working on them. Whew! *One day I will look back at some of these creations and be able to finish them in half the time or better.
See you on the Streetz..this weekend at Waikiki Beach checking out the GIANT waves!
PSNY Kick off Men’s NYFW Bowie Style
Fall 2016 School’s in Session
Maxwell Osborne, Dao-Yi Chow & Their Brand Public School sneakily staged a special Inside-Outside Runway Show on Day 1 of Mens NYFW February 2, 2016. PSNY took to the streetz staging a runway outside of Milk Studios in NY. The runway displayed the Fall 2016 Men’s Collection to the public, then circled inside to show the pieces to the media and celebs in attendance. (Celebrities at the show included: Hip-Hop Artist: Fabolous, Producer Extraordinaire: Swizz Beats Instagram Fashion Man of the Moment: Nick Wooster and New York Giants: Victor Cruz.
The designers took inspiration from the movie entitled, The Man Who fell to Earth which starred David Bowie back in 1976. I actually went to see this movie sometime in the early 80’s. It’s about an Alien/Bowie who wonders around planet Earth looking for water to bring back to his home planet. It’s a pretty bizarre, artsy, slow-moving movie and if Bowie was not in it, I would have left the theatre before the end. I remember some pretty rad sunglasses but wasnt so impressed by the styles in the movie.
Some of the silhouettes of the Fall 2016 clothes and some of the more earthy tones remind me a bit of the movie. And if you look carefully enough at the pieces in the collection, you may see some triangles here and there which is the symbol for water. The picture on the left continues the massive Bomber jacket trend into Fall 2016. And the picture on the right does feel a bit like the movie, just with a very large punch of 2016 in it.
Ya know, another thing I remember but barely about the movie, is Bowie kept taking his jacket on then off, then on then off again. Strange thing for me to remember.
Earthy Tones
Me personally, I like it when PSNY sticks to their black, grey and dark blue color palette. there is too much color for me for this outing. Although, there’s enough black and grey for me to check their site to see what’s for sale in Fall 2016. Also notice the continuation of the Biker Jacket trend and the Jumpsuit action. My friend Eric and I has some nice black jumpsuits back in 1981. We were influenced by a trip to Paris. We used to wear them to parties with fedoras. Where was Instagram when I needed it!
Blacks and Greys ala Classic PSNY!
So far, as of 9:36pm (HST) on Tuesday February 2, 2016, it seems a bit hard to find the video of the show. Just some pictures. (And very glad for them, courtesy of vogue.com) The last couple of shows PSNY streamed the shows live and had some great free total show replays. Not sure what happened this time around? I for one totally miss the live streaming video. PSNY and Marc Jacobs have been super cool about their Runway show videos. Maybe it’s to keep the show a bit of a mystery? Or some sort of far out Retro Bowie insider quip about how they didn’t have streaming in 1976? I really do not know.
Today (2/2/16) I felt like Bowie looking for Water in The Man that Fell to Earth, but instead of water, I was looking for the video of the Runway show. I did find a taste over on the Milk Studios NY Instagram account. Check out their IG if you’re thirsty.
Now if I could only get my hands on a pair of the PSNY x Jordan 12 kicks. Man, so close 2x, yet so far away. See you on the streetz this week in Waikiki and at the Big Game Parties in Hawaii at Big City Diner at Ward.
Public School Spring/Summer 2016 #NYFW September 2015
PSNY SS 2016 Runway Show
Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne at Public School sure have their work cut out for them this week. Today/Sunday was the Public School Runway Show, at 3:00p.m EST, On Wednesday September 16, 2015, they have the debut of their DKNY Collection.
This Public School collection is pretty amazing, especially on the female side. I suspect the DKNY show will have more Blacks and Dark Greys along with some sort of NYC vibe and probably some Ol’ School 90’s references.
Here are the best shots I snapped from the Live stream on the Public School Website at 5:30 a.m. Hawaii Time. Enjoy!
