The Magical World of Fashion Designer Martin Margiela
See some of Martin’s most famous works. Thoughts on his life by Big Time Designers like Jean-Paul Gualtier and Raf Simons. If you like design, clothes, fashion, and style; this is a must-see video. My favorite part is when his friend says all he used to do was buy clothes at the expense of not eating. Sound Familiar? To me it does.
Watch and See the Magical World of Maison Martin Margiela. And where is he now? Hmmm. Seems we do not know. Any guess? I suspect he’s on his own private island filled with coconuts, scissors, paper, pineapples, pencils and lots and lots of shoes and clothes piled high like a volcano ready to erupt!
March into Spring 2015
Here’s your one-stop shop for Spring Trends 2015. I wonder how they compare with the trends predicted by the Runway shows in Milan and by Streetzblog.com in July 2014?
Men’s Trends (From the H&M Spring Chic Magazine 2015) *List inspired by their list with streetzblog editorial.
Seventies Workwear: Fashionable take on 1970’s utility Styling mixed with functional fabrics like raw denim. Utilizing expert tailoring to make this trend look just as good on the weekends and at work.
Summer Neutrals: Subtle shades of beige and gray. That Beige is driving me a bit crazy, not at all a fav of mine, but even though 50 Shades of Grey didn’t live up to all the hype, the color grey is marching into Spring as the number one color.
Artistic Knits: Designers like Raf Simons and JW Anderson have updated the tank top with tapestry-like scenic landscapes. You also might want to check out your local Thailand or Tibetan shop to score some items of similar yet different aspects of this trend. If you’re going to wear a tank top, make sure you have your suntan lotion on or wear it at night. You don’t want to have that extremely funny tank top tan line, it’s just as bad as forgetting to button your fly all day.
Italian Riviera: You may have heard that the 70’s, 80’s and especially the 90’s are big now. Well, this trend takes us back to the 50’s with lightweight preppy styles including the piped polo look shirt and striped golf jackets. Now, it’s really time to find a friend with a yacht!
Premium Parkas: Tailored rather than functional. A more formal and luxurious look for Spring layered over a suit. Sounds a bit warm to me, but depends on where you may live this will work or won’t. Basically lighter, groovier jackets for spring ala Parka. If you had a Winter like most, you may not want to wear a jacket as long as you can. Me, I can’t wait to get back to NY in December to rock my Alexander Wang x H&M Scuba hoodie. I did get some good mileage out of it in NY, but gotta’ tell you if you have scuba material jackets, use them in Spring. they really are’nt meant to keep you warm in the Winter.
GQ Boot Spring Boot Trend *Info inspired by the February 2015 print issue of GQ, with additional streetzblog editorial
Made in the Suede
Dress Boots: Wing Tip or Cap-Toe. In grey, beige, brown or be a bit more daring and go with the blue or green. My favorite work shoes at the moment are’nt suede, but they are a nice deep Navy pair of hi-tip wingtips. Comfortable and go with most of work clothes and my blue watch. Whether you go leather or suede, just make sure you match your shoes with your outfit before walking out the door. It’s not too pleasant to make it all the way to work and find out you need to hide in your cube all day, because your funky blue or green boots don’t match anything you’re wearing. And even worse, getting called into the bosses office on a day like this. Be especially careful on Mondays.
Desert Boots: These look very comfortable, yet I’m still holding out from purchasing a pair. They are updated in luxe suede, fun colors, rubber soles in crazy contrasting colors. They just remind be too much of 1978, when I refused to wear them. For some reason, these just don’t scream Stylish. But if they are really comfortable, I’d give them a try. LMK if you’ve rocked them and had success?
Chelsea Boots: These crack me up, because every single season for the last decade, the trend setters are telling us to wear a pair of Chelsea boots. This time in suede. They can look pretty stylish especially when done in a wing tip brogue or a duo tone ombre. You really can’t go wrong with a Chelsea boot, they worked for everyone from the Beatles, to Lou Reed to Harry Styles. I succumbed to the hype and bought what I thought were a fairly inexpensive pair of rubberized Ferrigamo Chelsea boots in brown. But WOW, they hurt my feet worse than anything I own. Maybe the suede is the way to go. More flex. If anyone wants a pair of brown Ferrigamo Chelsea boots in size 10 LMK.
Work Boots: This is a tough choice. GQ claims not to worry and scuff them up. I have a very opposite view of suede boots. To only wear them on a perfectly great sunny day. And on a day that I wont be walking in too much dirt or rocks. For some reason, out of all the materials, I think these look best, nice and un touched. Even in a work boot. I guess that’s why I own only one pair of suede shoes. They can be hard to clean. Probably the best shoe to take to the shoe maker to trick out then a DIY project. For sure, don’t slap some gooey polish on em’.
Streetzblog Spring predictions *As seen on the streetz, the web, magazines, and in my mind.
The Dull Colored Chino: Lighter fabric, colors in bland blue, off Pink, rusty Red, Beige, and Green. These are the more comfortable chinos, they are also the kind that wrinkles easier, so don’t try and wear them 2 days in a row. Fitted, yet not too skinny and no we are not in the boxy 80’s style…yet. For some of us over a certain age, the 80’s boxy style will make you look even older even if it does come back like the Women’s Mom and Men’s jean trend. Be careful of trends. If you like the way it looks on you, wear it, no matter what we say here or you read anywhere, if you don’t feel good in your new trendy outfit, don’t bother.
Ripped Jeans: Especially for women, get the versions with the biggest holes and most rips. It’s Spring, time for some nice spring breeze to inherit your legs. And this Summer, get ready to cut them a bit above or below your knee and wear them tailored selvage or totally Mad Max ripped out of control.
The Black Motorcycle Jacket: Seems to be the must have piece for 2015.
70’s, 80’s, 90’s: Wow! It’s here that it gets confusing. Depending on what or where you read something these decades are all in. From what I can tell, 70’s are best for Coachella cool, 90’s are the it decade now, and the 80’s are fading, yet the day-glo and neons especially bright Yellow and Ultra Pink are here to stay especially for the athletic chic vibe.
Cotton Candy Hair: From Dull Pink to washed out blue. If you’ve seen it at the cotton candy stand at the fair or on the runway, this is the It color, especially for females. Guys? Are you ready to rock these fun colors? Watch out for more platinum blond shades, thanks to: Kim K and Jared Leto.
Tiny Floral Prints: Big and bold was last year’s version. This year, looks like the flare of the flowers and fauna are getting smaller. Yet still a huge hit amongst the fashion forward NBA stars.
Black, Blue and Grey: If you don’t know what to wear today or tonight. Just pick out colors from these, combine and get out of the house. These are awesome, reliable year round’ look great colors. If you want to be really on trend, go with the dull green, dull light blue or even the (yuk) beige/khaki.
Trendy a la Mode Fashion Words describing what’s now and what’s next:
Health Goth, AthLeisure, Avant-Bland, Fly-Girl, Retro-Chic, and the NoTrendTrend.
I’m thinking next blog post will be dedicated to the Health Goth look. Fun name and lots of great designers doing it. Rick Owens, HBA, Alexander Wang to name a few. See you on the Streetz.
Wait until you see the Shot!
I tend to have a hard time writing about H&M during my 3 month/Jan-Mar hiatus each year from buying clothes. But this isn’t so much about H&M as it is about a fun video to watch. I was like whoa, this is a bit boring, and they’re trying real hard to get all the clothing shots in during :49. Alas, when you see the last 10 seconds, you will most likely get a nice big smile on your face and go WOW!
We all need more WOW’s in our day, so here’s your chance to get at least one WOW for Today. Hope you enjoy it!
And even though, I can’t shop for clothes until April, you can. So here’s the info on the new collection at H&M. The Modern Essentials collections are pieces selected by David Beckham and include a linen Bomber jacket, a white denim jacket, a pique polo shirt with excellent piping, a linen blazer (already sold out on-line), a very comfy blue raglan sweatshirt, a linen T and a classic white poplin shirt. *Note: I didn’t see the nice black zippered jacket he wears in the video, but maybe it exists or it’s also already sold out.
Interesting enough, I found the video the same day the collection goes on sale-Today March 5th , 2015. So you can most likely head on over to H&M or check them out on line to get some classy new clothes. Maybe someone will send me a gift card and I’ll join you. If not, see you at H&M in April. Hope they still have some of the clothes remaining, or I really hope I get that H&M Gift Card.
If you’d like to see the making of the WOW’za video, It’s coming up next. It was done by filmmaker Marc Forster who also made World War Z and The Kite Runner.
The T-Shirt/Dress Shirt Hybrid Shirt
I like to wear crisp, clean T’s under my suits. Mostly because the weather is hot where I live and they keep me cool. And the way suits are cut so slim nowadays, it feels pretty stuffy with a standard long sleeve dress shirt underneath. That scrunchy feeling sucks even more in the hot weather.
But there are times when I want so show off the fact that might suits are cut perfectly to show some cuff. Voila, along comes Berluti’s Half and Half. The torso and sleeves are cotton jersey like a T-shirt, and the cuffs are made like a dress shirt of poplin with hand sewn mother of pearl buttons. I doubt I would wear this alone, but with a slim cut 2 button suit, it would be really fun & stylish. The shirt’s a little pricey at $490, but if it comes in black or goes on sale, I’m gonna’ get one of these. People will be like Whaaat! are you wearing? I always enjoy a nice conversation starter, especially when it has to do with clothes or kicks. Berluti Dress Shirt/T-Shirt Available here
PUMA’s Spring Summer 2015 Collection-Dropping This Saturday February 28, 2015
Very New Town Chic Video from PUMA. It just gives a total vibe of Slick, Hip, Cool, and Stand-Out Street Cred Chic. Something I suspect PUMA could use. I haven’t had a pair of PUMA’s in like 25 years, maybe it’s time to try out their clothes.
Check out this Magical Mini-Mixer
Oh, think of the fun you could have at the Club this weekend. Would be super-fun to hack into the real DJ’s system with this gizmo. What a Blast! eh?
See you on the Streetz of Oahu this weekend. I hope to see the movie-Focus and hopefully eat at Buca Di Beppo. What are your plans? Let us know in the comments section.

Wednesday-Private VIP Party-Thursday-Grand Opening-Saturday-Streetzblog stops by H&M at Lunch and again at Dinner
Wednesday Night: Special invitees attended a pre opening VIP party complete with Live Band, DJ’s, Gifts, Photos, Shopping and More. People were already lined up at Midnight to get in on Thursday at Noon. (Info for the pre opening party acquired by Streetzblog through various Social Media Sites)
Thursday: Thousands lined up at the brand new grand Opening of the first H&M to hit Hawaii ever. I’ve been to many H&M’s in NYC and one in Chicago. This is the first to come to Waikiki on the island of Oahu.
I had to work on Thursday, thus I had a really good and thoughtful friend of mine down at the Grand Opening taking pictures for Streetzblog.com @scottmackenzie3 on twitter and streetzpix on Instagram. He said that Kalakaua had lines on both sides of it and that they were only letting 500 people in at a time. We said we would meet Saturday at Noon to check out the new store.
Saturday at Noon at the new H&M in Waikiki:
I parked at the Diamond Head side of Waikiki at the Zoo and walked to H&M, when I got there I found out that H&M has free validated parking right next door. All you do is buy at least one thing and they will validate for you.
The Store is pretty big, has Dj’s playing upbeat fun music, the first floor is for women and the Second floor is for men. The Great part about this H&M is it’s the month of March and almost all of the clothes are perfect for a warm weather climate. Typically when I go to H&M its in December in NYC, the selection is quite different. I think they did a really nice job of picking climate appropriate clothes. Although, they did have this very funny Alaska T, but I suspect someone put it there to be funny in a tongue in cheek type of way.
I had quite a fun time in my Hour and 15 minute Mid-Day Shopping Spree. I picked up 9 items. Then budgeted it out a bit and ended up with 5 items for $139 with a $10 off card. My 5 items including a $69 suit jacket that fits perfectly came to $129, quite a nice deal if I would say so. (Total Haul: Spectacular Suit Jacket, Purple/slate grey T, Long Sleeve Dark Grey/Black T, checked dress shirt with nice interesting inside stripes and a pair of crisp clean black slim tapered slacks to wear to dinner later in the evening.
My Cat named Squirly even likes all of the fun clothes from H&M. If they ever get cat clothes, I’ll need to hook him up with something.
Here I am with my big bag of 5 items and my free gift-Thanks H&M in Waikiki, that was very nice of you! (Notice my lack of tan, but just wait until my dinner time shopping spree, you shall see a different look).
Afterwords I went to have some lunch with my friends D and J, they don’t much like social media/blogs etc. They are two of the 8 people I know that don’t even have a Facebook account. Thus we won’t mention them by their real names, just their initials. But I do thank them for the $10 discount card and accompanying me to the Big Saturday of Shopping at H&M in Waikiki.
After, I went and played some basketball in the nice Hawaiian Sun, took a little rest and got ready for dinner. For Dinner I wore my new black fitted trousers, the Purple/slate grey T-shirt, and an older medium blue long sleeve shirt I bought at the Chicago H&M about 8 years ago. I noticed it just started to fit me again. Must have lost some weight when I was at the hospital in January. Well, actually I did, about 14 pounds. Just surprised I’ve kept it off, good thing is somethings fit really well, bad thing is most of my work clothes are pretty baggy.
At Dinner Sharen and Gail said they wanted to go to H&M. Me, being the Shop-o-Holic that I am, I said; Oh for sure. I’ll just go on a $25 budget .. HA! So at 8:10 p.m I returned to H&M in Waikiki.
We said we would stay from 8:20 until 9:00, we stayed until 9:25 just a tad bit over time. I ended up getting the pants to my suit jacket and I tried but couldn’t resist a pair of sweats with zippered pockets. My Bill was around $70, not nearly as fun as 5 things for $129. But too hard for me to resist. For me, the best way not to shop is to stay at home. I went January thru Today without shopping for clothes or shoes, a couple weekends, I either stayed home, went to the gym, yoga or the beach to stay out of the stores. And I also didn’t go to any of my favorite on-line shops during that time. So I guess all is well in ShoppingLand. They did have some great Grand Opening prices. some kicks were $10, some shirts $15, they had some basic T’s for $5,95 and a bunch of Cali T’s for $6.99. I think day one would have been the best day for the $10 and $20 shoes, most of them were gone, only 8.5’s and 11.5’s left when I was there at Lunch and even less after dinner. I also noticed they had camo pants at lunch, but none left by Dinner.
Earlier in the Day I asked one of the employees what the best seller was. He said the Beckham Collection. I will need to come back one day for that. And later in the night I found a really nice sales executive who gave me some great tips for you and me on the new store:
- Sign up for H&M on Facebook. They will mention special sales. Also sign up for the newsletter to get special prices and special event details delivered directly to your email address.
- Parking is free with a purchase and lasts THREE hours, that is some of the best parking in Waikiki, I sure hope it lasts!
- Here’s a fun one: Bring in Two bags of your old clothes and get a 15% off coupon for each bag you bring in, and get this each bag just needs a minimum of 2 pieces of clothing in them. He said that they re-purpose the materials for new clothes, how cool is that! I will for sure be doing this in the near to late future.
- Hash Tag for the Hawaii store is: #HMlovesHawaii
- Look for the Red Tags!
- He also said the grand opening party was Lots of fun and re-assured me that Beckham did not attend. I would have been even more upset if I missed him. I still need to give him some of my own Starbecks shirts.
Here’s some other fun things about my day:
When I shopped with D and J, I noticed they didn’t buy anything. I said hey whats up? Guess what they sneakily went to H&M on Thursday evening and filled up their bag of goodies. Hmm.
When I shopped with Sharen and Gail, I get outside to see what their big hauls were. Sharen had ONE $6.99 T for her husband and a ONE black top for herself. Gail had ONE beanie for $3, a warm weather cap for $3 and some other little trinket for $1, she spent a whopping $7. I guess I do like clothes and kicks more than the average person, didn’t know it was that different. But I do know, I typically have way more clothes and shoes in my condo than Food.
Gail and Sharen with their Big Bags of H&M Gear: (Yes, you can guess it easily, the Biggest Bag is mine).
Me and Sharen. Note the Tan..LOL
I think that about covers the first few days of the brand new H&M in Waikiki on the island of Oahu. Let’s see how long I can go without going back. I kinda’ liked having H&M further away from me, it’s just so tempting especially when I come out with big bags of goodies for less than $150. That is the best and most fun way to shop!
Do you have an H&M where you live? Did you go to the H&M in Waikiki? What did you buy? Also, If you ever need anything from H&M in Hawaii, just hit me up, I love to shop, so no biggie for me, just let me know what you need at email@example.comHope you have a nice sunny? Sunday or at least a relaxing Sunday. See you on the Streetz or maybe at the Beach.
Hot Models, Chic Clothes, & Styling Shoes..Such a Wonderful way to Shop
This is such a fun runway show, I couldn’t resist posting it. For the Chanel Fall 2014 Paris Collection, Karl Lagerfeld held the show at the Grand Palais at the Chanel Shopping Center..a Giant Costco-Esque supermarket or as the French would say Super Marche. It’s time to stop Channel Surfing and start Chanel Shopping!
This is a Spectacular, Tres-Chic, fun show to watch. The Highlights that really stood out for me, other than the awesome setting are:
- The Multi-Colored oil slick sneakers (Easier to walk in while shopping than heels).
- The just under the knee Silver chrome accented boots and later on in the show a pair of similar bronze version.
- The small stylish metal grocery baskets. The little black CC Purse and the Luxe-Life CC necklaces and adornments.
- The Silver-Metallic Dress. It looks a bit like Chain metal. I like that look.
- The Over-Sized Silver and Gold Pop-Top Necklaces.
- The Big Black Headphones.
- The necklaces with the Giant Bicycle/Locker Padlocks dangling from them. I think I could rock one of those…
- My favorite outfit is the grey jacket and pants with the many holes in them. Very unexpected, yet such an excellent look.
- And I love it in the end when the models actually shop and the one man model in the show is carrying one of the models many, many Chanel Shopping bags. So funny!
Colors included Black (of course), Some light pink ensembles, a bit of orange, a few outfits with many, many colors in them and of course the Biggest trend for Fall 2014, the obsequious Grey Color. Women and Men will be seeing a lot of Grey this Fall 2014 and Winter 2015. It seems to be in every show in some way shape or form. When is that 50 Shades of Grey movie coming out anyways? The First time I checked it was November 2014, Second time I checked it was around Valentines Day 2015. Either one fits the time-table of the color grey for Fall 2014 or Winter 2015.
Hey-does anyone know why Grey is spelled Grey and other times Gray? I don’t get it. I tend to like Grey. Which outfit or shoes did you like the best? Did you spot any of the “Where’s Waldo” types of intricacies in the show..maybe the +50% Sale Sign? The Hefty-Bag Coat or the Little Black Tea? The more you watch the more fun you can have with this show. LMK what you find and let us all know in the comments section? I’m sure there is much more to find in your favorite Chanel Shopping Aisle. Jambon anyone? Have a Great Monday!
If you like Puffy, you’d like These looks
I like to talk positive in 95% of my blog posts. And in this one, I wouldn’t say I’m being Negative. I just think the looks shown at the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in general were pretty awkward and waaaay to Puffy. Maybe, the designs were made more for warmth than style. But with all the money everyone has, Why not make one look for the Ceremony, then have another look for the pre and post events?
With this post, I didn’t do any research on who the designers were or didn’t even look at any other blogs or news sites. The opinions listed below are from my own Fashionista view of what my impression of this year’s looks were like. Some were good, but most were not that stylish from my view-point. My number one favorite was the Netherlands. What did you think of the looks? Let me know in the comments section.
*Sorry if I missed your country, this is the second time I’ve done a Live blog to the opening Ceremony and it’s a bit overwhelming to keep up.
Bermuda: Red Short pants! Suit Jackets, Ties, White button down shirts, Long dark socks and black business man shoes. Did I say Short pants? Guess they were Bermuda Shorts. Too Funny.
Bulgaria: Pretty styling looking ski jackets in bright blue flashy yellow with fashionably fierce furry hoods.
Brazil: Bright Yellow Shirts. Funny looking thick bulky scarves tied in awkward knots. Not one of my favorite looks.
Great Britain: Dark Blue Slick looking puffy down jackets with burgundy hoods. The best look so far. Something I would and could actually wear. (Adidas)
Venezuela: Extremely Enthused One guy in multi colored garb.
Germany: Yellow, Green, Light Blue Jackets, with red pants. They looked like some kind of cartoon character, I guess maybe multi colored smurfs? Don’t know who designed these uniforms, but Whoa, must have been someone who went to too many Love Parades! Pretty daring look, just way too bright and cartoonish for my taste.
Israel: Just some bright, light blue and white ski clothes. Not quite daring enough.
Ireland: Kind of a New Balance version of horizontal Camo? Nice Green color with Horizontal colors interwoven throughout. The most Street look as of yet.
Italy: Usually a pretty Stylish country. This attempt was close with the dark blue and white striping. But the coats were too bulky to show off the style correctly. Must be really cold this year in Italy.
Canada: Very conservative. Looked like Canadian Mounty’s/Firemen. Classic Red and Black Canadian Colors.
Kyrgyzstan: Looked like they were wearing hand-made hats made of Newspaper. Ooops.
China: Once again, way too much bulk in the down jackets. Made them look “stuffed” instead of fit. I’d keep these coats for the post game warm down. And have another look for the Opening Ceremony.
Lithuania: Flourescent Green puffy jackets. with bright yellow pants. hats and scarves with the same bright colors.
Liechtenstein: Fairly interesting attempt at Pop-Art. In Red, Blue, White, just looked a bit too done already, in the 80’s.
Mexico: Dark blue or black with white trim. Looked just like that movie Tron. If they turned off the lights you would just see silhouettes with white lines. Interesting.
Netherlands: I usually like this team, since Blue and Orange are my two favorite colors together. And this year they didn’t fail me. Nice, Thin not puffy dark blue down jackets with awesome bright Orange accents and interiors. A really nice look. something I would Rock on the streetz of New York and probably Chicago.
USA: Where’s Waldo? I do live in the U.S.A, thus you can tell I’m not bias at all. I do not like these silly over decorated, gaudy sweaters and hats. And goofy baggy white sweat pants. They remind me of Where’s Waldo? No kidding here. If I were the US design team, I would have gone with a much more understated look. A dark blue thin down Jacket from Uniqlo would look nice. With some tailored dark blue or black fitted slacks and some hip shoes like the new flat soled Doc Martins or some other Hi-End Sneaker like a Rick Owens or a Marc Jacobs. Note: The backs of the sweaters were looking ok, some nice Stars and a simple USA. It’s the front that was way too much.
Poland: White, White, Grey, White and some red. I guess I’ve never been there, so don’t quite get the look.
South Korea: Colors and style looked good. but once again way too puffy.
BTW: The music has been pretty hip, pretty nice Dance beat throughout the ceremony. A bit generic at times, but still sounded pretty progressive for the Olympics. I thought the London Olympic Opening Ceremony had the best music ever!
Chinese Taipei: Bright Blue gowns like a High School graduation. Whoa!
Togo: Ok I guess the winter Olympics is more about warmth than style. I’m starting to catch on. Interesting colors on top-looks like yellow and a dark purple?. And some pretty cool icy silver Zippers on the ski pants.
Ukraine: Some nice street style jackets. Kinda Camo, kinda animal print. Not sure which animal-maybe an Owl? Interesting look. I Didnt even notice the pants.
Second BTW: I’ve had enough. But I need to wait until I see Russia,it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t watch long enough to see the host Country’s Clothes. So, I will continue with this “Live” blog from the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
France: Grey down jackets made to look like suit jackets with an awkward khaki colored pant. The grey tops were a nice attempt at some style, but the pants were like goofy American office attire.
Third BTW: The silly announcer just said that some people have been dancing for 25-30 minutes. Like it’s something lame to do, what’s wrong with him? Never been to a Rave before? People dance for 4-6-8 hours and it’s fun, yes FUN.
Switzerland: All Bright Red all the Time.
Sweden: Didnt notice the clothes but I saw the NY Rangers Goalie waving the flag. That’s pretty cool.
Fourth BTW: Ok when is this going to be over. I need to get dressed to go out for the night.
Russia: Finally, OMG. And they are wearing Red, White and Blue? A classic Russian look. with a bit of 2013 Nu School Docker’s flair in their red pants. It would be really cool if they played a “Pussy Riot” song when they came out. But don’t think that Prez P would dig that.
Well, that’s the official Streetzblog wrap up of what most of the Countries wore. I liked the London Olympic Opening Ceremony much better. The music and the designer duds, but it was kinda fun to live blog the Ceremony. Hopefully, I’ll have the night off in two years and will once again bring you the next Olympic Opening Ceremony of Style.
Have a nice Weekend. See you on the streetz. Now I have just enough time to get myself dressed for an evening of fun and Frivolity. No puffy jacket for me tonight. Gonna’ Rock my dark blue and black plaid pants, a black comfy yet fitted T from H&M, and my flat soled black Doc Martins, my most favorite and MOST comfortable shoes I’ve owned in years!
“Too Cool For School?”
Men’s Fashion Trends Fall 2013
Taking a Flash-Forward approach to upcoming trends for Fall, here are the NINE various trends seen at the London, Milan, Paris and New York Fashion Weeks. Trends courtesy of and named verbatim by the WWD-February 28, 2013 Edition. With Editorial about the trends courtesy of streetzblog.com
1. Pared-Down Suits: Trousers still looking pretty skinny, yet length depending on where you live and what look you’re going for are either very short & cropped or pretty short & scrunchy. Presently I prefer mine with zero or 2 small pleats, tailored fairly close to my legs with a slight break above the ankle with a ¾ inch Cuff.
2. Volume Coats: I suspect the designers were over doing it a bit here to show the trend. The coats fit at the sleeves but are big, bulky and basically look like they don’t fit. It’s taken my 15 years to realize most of my clothes are way to big. This is one trend I won’t be participating in during 2013. I find the fitted yet comfortable look to be the best at the moment for my clothes and my future winter coats.
3. 3-D Effects: Puffy fabrics, protruding elements, and various depths to one piece of clothing. I suspect this is a look for fashion forward Paris or Milan. Looks a bit retro 80’s. I’m not very into this look, kinda’ like trying a bit too hard; maybe it will grow on me or possible “on top” my fabric of choice.
4. Cropped Pants: Well above the ankle. Almost like long yet tailored shorts. This looks good if you use High Quality Designer duds. I’m one of the biggest proponents for mixing Fast-Fashion and Hi-End Fashion, but for this to look good I would suggest spending some bigger cash and get your gear from DSquared2 Marc Jacobs, Rag&Bone or Junya Watanabe. Or if you do go FF-HF, invest in some nice hi-top brogues or play with your socks a bit. The Cordovan hi tip brogues look great! Or try the Pebble Brown Doc Martin’s or some Army/Navy Surplus store combat boots. The black socks with the Black pants are a look I dig. I’d say it would also work well with Flo-Orange, Flo-Green or Paisley socks as well. Like the look, just spend a bit of cash and get some nice high quality fabrics, or some nice kicks and socks and this should be a pretty stylish Pick!
5. Mr. Green: Basically WWD is saying that dark green, forest Green, and army green are going to be Big colors for Fall 2013. Looks ok to me, I tend to go for the blacks, greys and midnight blues on the weekend. But I do wear a lot of green to work, so no prob’s with green on this end.
6. Heritage Fabrics: Grey, Black, dark camel Tweeds, plaids, Checkers and squares, In nice thick hi-quality pants, shirts, jackets and vests. I think we’ve been seeing this trend taking form for a couple years now. Chic Men Magazine has been doing it up since issue number one. This version has a bit of a “Blow Up” retro Sixties look to it. I like it; you would just need to live somewhere cold enough to make this look work for you.
7. Chic Athletics: Looks like more and more designers going the Y-3 x Adidas Style. Marni, Duckie Brown, Kenzo, Kris Van Assche, Time Coppens and Trussardi using High end fabrics with a sporty weekendy type of look. Things look a bit baggy here, not sure if we’re ready to going back to the big and baggy look. I for one am going to try and stay true to fit for another year or two. Anyone need some XL & XXL NBA or NFL All-Star Gear? I have lots in my closet, waiting for the trend to come back around or prepared to sell it in my new “Kicks and Clothes on Wheels” Mobil Mobile that I designed last week. Right now, you could just email me if you’re interested and are big enough to fit the Gear.
8. Bold Patterns: Flowers, Paisleys, Birds, geometric shapes on pants, shirts, coats, sweaters, and suits. One trend I can do without. Unless I was Dj’ing or doing some sort of Red Carpet entrance. Then I’d still probably stick to my Black, Grey and Orange plaid pants on plaid shirt with black suit jacket look. No birds or toads on my clothes this year!
9. Leather on Leather: Leather Jackets, Leather pants Leather gloves, leather shoes all worn at the same time. If you’re a Rock Star or think you’re a Rock Star this is the look for you. Have fun!

Mark McNairy “New Amsterdam” Men’s NY Fashion Week Presentation
I needed a bit of a break after all the Jordan fun and I had my first real cold in at least 12 years. I dont ever get sick, I say to myself all the time “I’m 100% Healthy”. And I never get sick, but I got it and even missed a day of work! ugh.
Back with a little vid of Mark McNairy’s debut of their New Amsterdam Men’s collection from New York Fashion Week 2013. I like the two-tone shorts, The various camo, wools and tweeds. But my eyes were very fixated on the shoes and brogues. We’ve written about his shoes before and I still like them the best. Check out the nice blue soles on the pair at the end of the show.
The Ski Mask’s would go well with that new TV commercial about the convenience store and the convertible car they drive in the Snowy Weather.
What do you think of the collection? Or What Collection have you seen lately that’s nice?
