Time for a Board Meeting
Would you Wear this to the Beach?
This Suit is a Wetsuit, it’s real, not a stunt. Quicksilver and Japanese Advertising agency TBWA/HAKUHODO have combined forces to create The True Wetsuit which looks just like a Business Suit.
The jacket and pants are made from two-millimeter high-stretch neoprene, the shirt is created with a Quicksilver and 3M Dryflight fabric, and the whole set up also comes with a tie. Which of course, you don’t need to wear, I doubt the tie would even be safe out in the waves of Hawaii.
We used to have some pretty fun Board meetings in Hawaii’s waves. Now, you can have the meeting and report to your office fully dressed ready to roll. Not too many people wear business suits to work in Hawaii, so I guess we should wait for the Neoprene dress slacks with the 3M Dryflight Aloha Shirt.
Still pretty cool that these Wetsuits aren’t just a publicity stunt, but they actually are functional. Me, personally, I’m still trying to figure out where to put my car key when I go surfing. I didn’t see where the man in the video put his car key. But with most keys being electronic nowadays, I find it hard to take it surfing even with a triple sealed protective covering. Someone please help!
The True Wetsuit is available in black and a pretty bright looking blue, it also comes in a tuxedo version-maybe that would be a fun outfit to get married in, then head out to catch some waves. The suits start at a pretty pricey $2,500. Surf over to TrueWetsuits.jp to purchase yours or find more information. The video below is pretty stylish, the man surfs the waves and the web at the same time with his magical pen. His suit is also amazingly tailored with just enough dress shirt cuff showing! Watch it below, it’s a fun video:
See you on the Streetz and maybe out in the Surf!
TheManTheMythTheMargiela
The Magical World of Fashion Designer Martin Margiela
See some of Martin’s most famous works. Thoughts on his life by Big Time Designers like Jean-Paul Gualtier and Raf Simons. If you like design, clothes, fashion, and style; this is a must-see video. My favorite part is when his friend says all he used to do was buy clothes at the expense of not eating. Sound Familiar? To me it does.
Watch and See the Magical World of Maison Martin Margiela. And where is he now? Hmmm. Seems we do not know. Any guess? I suspect he’s on his own private island filled with coconuts, scissors, paper, pineapples, pencils and lots and lots of shoes and clothes piled high like a volcano ready to erupt!
Car-E-Oke in Hawaii
Car-E-Oke in the 808 State
One of my goals for 2015 is to share more blog posts on the sun, fun and culture of the place I live. It’s a goal I’ve strayed from in favor of World-Wide designer fashion, Luxe-Life kicks and other clothes and sneaker features.
Today, I take you to the center of Hawaii Culture with the first webisode of Car-e-Oke. When I woke up this morning I scanned my Instagram very quickly and saw the word Car-e-Oke. I thought it would be a good name for a singing contest promotion. It wasn’t until later in the day that I realized I knew the people responsible for the word and the post. They told me about it and I was like Oh I was gonna nab the name for a Singing Contest. (JK) So, in respect to the Young Hawaii folks, I won’t be stealing the name for a promotion and will share the vid with you on streetzblog.
This is the first webisode of Car-E-Oke featuring musician, Kiwini Vaitai interviewed and driven around town by Kaipo Kapua. Nice concept, Roses and Thorns sounds like an Island hit and don’t miss the surprise about 3/4 of the way through the video. It’s pretty funny. From the Island of Oahu, Here’s the video:
Let us know what you think in the comments section, or write your thoughts below the youtube video. If you would like more information about Young Hawaii, Kiwini Vaitai or Kaipo Kapua, email Email me anytime. See you on the Streetz of Ohau this week at Eat the Street Friday night, on the radio Saturday night and at the Beach on Sunday. Aloha!
NikeLab x DSM Jordan 1
PATENT at the Street Market
This Thursday April 16th, 2015 Dover Street Market unleashes the NikeLab Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG x DSM (Obsidian/White). These will be available at the NikeLab Space at the Dover Street Market NY store and on the DSMNY E-SHOP.
According to the DSMNY website, they aren’t quite sure of the launch time, but you can enter your name and email next to your size. And they will email you the information once it becomes available. Price: $185
Nice all-obsidian blue patent leather upper with white outer sole. Perfect to wear with a suit. Although, It looks like the only mention of Dover Street Market is the DSM branding on the insoles. They also have a limited edition Jordan x DSM shirt and hat on sale this Thursday April 16th. You can sign up for an email for these 2 items also.
Since these are Jordans, I suspect they will go quickly. When I was at DSMNY, I noticed most of the staff and some shoppers wearing a special pair of NikeLab kicks in a beige colorway. It was the first time I’d ever seen them. Since then I’ve only noticed them on a female Runway model. Look like they were pretty limited.
The other shoe collab that I like is the Converse x DSM. I have a pair of these and they are the newer re-imagined Cons with an extra bounce in the sole. Very comfortable, you can really tell the difference. They are a pure black-Out colorway with a DSM design/logo in white. I’m pretty sure I’m the only one in Hawaii who has a pair of these. And some are still available on the DSMNY website.
If you are in or go to NY, I would suggest visiting the store, it’s quite a fun place to visit, What do you think of the DSM collabs so far? Anyone know more about the beige pair? Thoughts on the new Obsidian Blue Patent J’s?
Turning People into Paintings
Alexa Meade Turns 3 Dimensional People into 2 Dimensional Paintings
A Canvas? Who Needs a Canvas? Alexa Paints on People!
I really enjoyed today’s webdiscovery. It’s about a lady named Alexa Meade who was headed into a job in politics, who made a quick and favorable career adjustment to be an artist…who paints directly on to people!
She basically takes a person, especially someone she doesn’t know too well. Then paints upon and around them to produce her art. Then takes a picture of it, because after that, it’s all gone. When I was painting graffiti hats, I was so attached to them, I wanted to keep them all instead of sell them. Wish I had her vision of disposable art 12 years ago, I could have made some $$ before they went out of style. Now, I give them away and save some for the next 80’s trucker hat revival.
Anyways, Alexa has had a tremendous rise in fame with photos of her work exhibited in NY, London, Switzerland and Germany. Here’s how she describes her works of art:
Instead of painting a portrait on canvas, I will paint my portrait directly on top of the subject being referenced. I cover the skin and clothes of my models in a mask of nontoxic acrylic paint that mimics the colors and contours of the underlying surfaces, and then photograph them. This painting technique I innovated optically compresses 3D space into a 2D plane. Alexa Meade
Check out the TED talk below of Alexa explaining her various paintings and philosophy on art. LMK what you think of this type of art in the comments section below. See you on the streetz of Oahu..This week at the UH Men’s Volleyball game, Healthy Kids Day and the MDA Soiree. Have a nice weekend!
Spring and Summer Public School’s in Session
PSNY Brings the HEAT to Spring/Summer 2015
The Public School NY S/S 2015 Runway Show is delicious spectacle of impeccable tailoring, comfortable fabrics, a pleasing color palette for both men and women with a one-man band. Check out the show and as usual some of the Highlights and Lowlights are provided below the video for a quick snapshot of the show. You may be time starved and just want to read a quick take on the show. I know I get that way sometimes. Just want to read and run, especially on a weekday.
Highlights:
- The One Man Band: Wow! One man all decked out in Public School clothing sounding like a 5 piece band. He sings, plays guitar, tweaks the computer/synth machine to bring a full blown sound to the show all in the present moment.
- The Color Palette: Black and White, Grey and a bit of Cobalt blue. What else do you need for the perfect Health-Goth look! *I read somewhere, not sure where, but have heard rumour that PSNY may explore a new color or 2 in Fall or Winter 2015-16.
- The Materials: The fabrics practically speak the word comfortable.
- Shorts: My personal favorite are shorts that are cut just below the knee. PSNY has them in black, grey and white. Nice!
- Sexy: The females have skirts cut at the perfect length for Summer. And that grey dress with the little mid-riff slit near the end of the show is pretty slick.
Lowlights:
- Hats: Not sure how they fit into the show. I guess they look alright on the ladies, but not quite a favorite look of mine for the guys. They’re kinda like old-fashioned flight attendant caps, yet in all black. Maybe it’s where I live, but it would be a hard look to pull off here. I suspect it would work better in Morocco, NY or maybe Paris?
- Shorts: Some were cut above the knee. I doubt the NY bred designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Cho would rock them above the knee, I know I wouldn’t,
- Where are the clothes?: Many times on streetzblog we write about things way ahead of time, thus the clothing typically isn’t ready to wear. Today, the show is S/S 2015 and the clothes on-line are S/S 2015. Yet, it’s hard to find the tailored shorts below the knee. Maybe they’ll be available later in the Summer. Note to shoppers: If you like anything you see on the Public School website, it’s best to buy it when you see it. Many of the M, L and XL’s disappear pretty quickly. Today/Friday April 3rd 2015 there are lots of S and XS available. Not much else.

See you on the streetz of Oahu this weekend and have a Happy Easter!
