Grab Quick or Lose Out-Limsanity in 4th Gear!
Phillip Lim For Target Review-Sunday September 15, 2013-Kapolei, Hawaii
I woke up extremely early for me on a Sunday morning (7:20 am) but needed two scoops of instant coffee, a quick bite, fast shower & I was out of the door by 8:30 am. That took way too long-Hey it was early! I got there exactly at 9:00 am. Walked in the door and there was the Phillip Lim Sign in the front of the store. Noticed the females grabbing quickly. looked for the guys clothes, hoping they were elsewhere since it was very crowded.
Alas, Guys clothes were with the ladies clothes, realized this and went into NYC sample sale mode. Grab as much as possible in sizes close to mine, then look closer at it later. Turned out to be the right move. Because within 10 minutes practically all fo the Men’s gear and most of the good Women’s wear was gone.
They had 3 pairs of the black Hi Top kicks left, Size 8, 10 and 12. I was able to nab the last size 10. And I was lucky enough to buy the two pieces that I really went there for: the camo sweat pants (With PL’s sweat pants going for $350 at Barney’s, who could resist a pair for $34.99) and the long-sleeved Grey and dark blue french terry shirt that the guy in the TV commercial was wearing.
It was a fun and exciting morning of shopping for High Fashion at Fast Fashion prices. Only bummer was there were ZERO bags and purses (Christmas presents) when I arrived. The employees said that they were ALL gone at 8:15 am. Many of the ladies were looking for the bags. I did see one, it was put back on the shelf, but gone in less than a second. Amazing! More Highlights and interesting things I noticed are listed below. Did you get anything in-store or on-line from the Phillip Lim for Target Collaboration Collection? Let us know in the comments area. It’s kind of fun to read all the tweets at #philliplimfortarget It seems it was similar all around the country. Saw many comments on how the bags went very quickly.

Highlights from today:
Bags and Boom Shirt were first to go. When I got there early Sunday morning. ALL the bags were gone. I did see one BOOM shirt. It was kind of funny a guy tried to nab it from the employee as she went to put it back on the rack. She said she had to put it back on the rack before he could touch it. She put it on the Rack and BOOM! he grabbed it in a nano second.
One man had one or two of everything. I went up to him at the Cashier’s and saw his bill for $798.18. Asked him if he was going to wear the clothes or sell them on Ebay. He glared with an evil stare, mumbled something. I kept moving before I got hit. Ooops, was just trying to be conversational not confrontational.
Asked a lady with a full basket where all the bags were? She said they were gone by 8:15AM, but was waiting for some to get returned. Couple minutes later ONE black bag was put on the shelf for half a second and it was gone. Neither of us got it.
People just filled their baskets as fast as they could. I’ve only seen something similar once and that was at a High-End Jeans Sample Sale in NYC. It was like the clothes were free, they were being grabbed so swiftly. Was an incredible sight to see.
I saw a friend of mine there with an empty basket. Asked him what he was doing, He said he was waiting for two of his Japanese friends to get their from the North Shore. I asked if they were guys or gals. He said two ladies from Japan. I told him to grab a bunch of stuff from the racks NOW, or there wouldn’t be anything left by the time they got there. Yep, I was right-only tan trench coats were left when they arrived. Needless to say they were quite happy with what he had in his basket for them! (Whew)
*Note:Prices were $10 more than what was mentioned on-line prior to the sales event. I suspect it was because it was Hawaii. Pizza Hut and Red Lobster are always more $$ in Hawaii than the TV commercials mention. **Shipping costs.
Who hid the Music?
Marc By Marc Jacobs #NYFW-Fashion Show S/S 2014
Where’s the missing WWPRD Song?
I was able to watch this show LIVE on my iPhone. That’s probably my most favorite thing to do during Fashion weeks in NYC. The Good folks over at Marc Jacobs know me from somewhere or I signed up for their mailing list sometime. Either way, it’s so cool how I get to watch the shows LIVE just like Anna Wintour et Al.
This Show was pretty good. I liked the 50’s inspired Khakis that had the 2013 Tapered at the ankle vibe to them. And sporty Chic is supposed to be the trend. So Good show. I couldn’t go back to wearing a Satin Jacket, I had one of these in Royal Blue in the late 70’s early 80’s that I wore till it practically fell apart. On me now, I have no idea what vibe it would portray? Hipster-Chic? I kind of think not. Probably, Hey that guy hasn’t been shopping in a while vibe. But I bet the satin jackets will look good on Early to Mid 20’s female and male model types.Funny part about this show, is I really liked the song they played during it. It was called What would PR do? or WWPRD? At first I thought it was a PR tune, but couldn’t find it there, I did find a YouTube video of Jeffrey Lewis doing an acoustic type version of it. It doesn’t quite have the punch as the song they had on live during the fashion show. At least you can kind of feel a bit of the vibe of what was playing in the background of the video below. It sure is a hard tune to find (at least on 9/13/13). I suspect it was an exclusive for Marc.
Check out Beatport to hear the music from the show.
Here is the acoustic version of the song by Jeffrey Lewis. It is really missing the full punch and pizzaz of the song I heard, not as punk rock sounding either. But at least you can kind of feel the vibe on the video above with no sound and check out the words, they are pretty smack dab on Today’s feeling about being in the world in September 2013. Some phrases are a bit more negative then I tend to like, but others are very “in the moment” about all Jeffrey’s missing is all this mobile phone craziness going on. Now everyone in my building where I work are staring at their phones in the elevators. AND most of the phones don’t get service in the Elevators. Just more people being Anti-Social is what I call it!
It’s not on SoundCloud, it’s not on iTunes, I did find it here at Rough Trade. I don’t know if the song is the full-fledged tune with the production values and full band or if it’s similar to the acoustic version. Update: Found it on Beatport and Yes, it is the song they played during the fashion show and you can listen to it or buy it here. Then watch the fashion show again and get the full affect of the Vibe of the show!
If you know other places we can get the tune let us know in the comments section. Or if you were at the Marc by Marc Jacobs fashion show, Let us know what you thought of the tune or the clothes? See you on the Streetz of Waikiki September thru Mid December then NYC and Chicago in December.
Before I go to sleep so I can wake up early to check out the Phillip Lim for Target collab in the morning, here’s the Marc Jacobs Fashion show that has all of the cool dark blues and black backdrop ambiance, and the models with the fun choppy hair. This Dark Blue and Black warehouse is how I would like my home to look, wouldn’t that be fun! If you were at this show let us know how it was in the comments section. This to me looks like a really well done show-almost like seeing a Play in Times Square, NYC.
Phillip Lim Hits The Bulls-Eye at Target
Designer Phillip Lim Hits Target this Sunday September 15, 2013 w/ clothes, bags & Shoes for Guys and Gals
This Sunday Phillip Lim’s limited edition clothing, Kicks and accessories hits Target stores. Typically Phillip Lim clothes are quite pricey. I’ve seen $325 sweat pants and backpacks going for $1,250. And his designs are usually sold at places like Barney’s NYC. This is an awesome opportunity to snag some of Phillip’s designer duds for less than $100. The picture above is just one of the outfits I’ve seen. For guys, I know Target will have pants, shirts, leather bags and jackets and even some pretty slick-looking kicks. I think I’ll stop by Target this Sunday and check out the line in person. Hope it comes to Hawaii on Sunday, sometimes we get things later than the mainland. That can be a good thing or not, just depends on what it is and how popular things are. If I do find things on Sunday I’ll let you know what it looks like Live. From the internet and the TV commercials the gear is looking pretty good to me. What do you think?
The picture above is one of many of the Women’s selections. I thought it looked the best. This is one of those blog posts that I want to tell people about, but would also like to keep a (slight LOL since there’s been so many commercials) secret. Because if the clothes and kicks are anything like what they look like on Target.com. I suspect this line is going to sell fast. Prices are great too! The Men’s Kicks were less than $50 And guess what? They will even have (French Terry) Sweat Pants for $29.99. See you Sunday on the streetz at Target Salt Lake, Hawaii.
Here’s a Nice preview video of the collection. Some great up-close pictures of the Men’s Hi and low top Sneakers, some clothes and up close and personal shots of the Women’s Purses.
And here’s the behind the Scenes making of the TV commercial you may have been seeing this past week or two on Network TV.
On the Target Web-Site, Phillip Lim’s Designs have been labeled as super-chic and this is what PL had to say about the new Collaboration:
By the look of the TV commercial, they do look super-chic and quite attractive. I think the Black and the Grey got me Good. Two of my favorite colors that go perfectly with each other. And the commercial has a pretty slick vibe to it.
BTW: Is the store pronounced TAR-GET or TAR-JAY? I’ve always called it TAR-GET, but my sister in Chicago and a friend in NY call it TAR-JAY.

Comfrey Green and Dazzling Blue for Spring 2014
The Official Pantone Colors for Spring 2014
Men
It’s New York Fashion Week September 2013. What that also means is it’s time for the Official Colors for Spring courtesy of Pantone! My favorite’s are the Comfrey Green for Men and the Dazzling Blue for Women. Check out the Pantone site and vote on your fav color for Spring 2014, it’s pretty fun to see what people are choosing. I won’t tell you which colors are winning, it’s more fun not knowing before taking the survey.
The Official Pantone Colors for Spring 2014
Women
I’m still cheering for the Cobalt Blue and Black vibe I’ve been seeing this past Spring, Summer & Beginning of Fall. That I’ve seen on Women. It totally looks perfect together and Rocks like no other at the moment. Maybe by Spring 2014 the Dazzling Blue will be the star, it would look really good with the Paloma or my favorite of all time is Blue and Orange. Thus, for sure I’m going for the Dazzling Blue x Celosia Orange for Spring 2014. PERFECTO
Here is the quick list of colors for Spring 2014 or check out more in-depth detail on colors for Spring 2014 directly on the Pantone Site:
Placid Blue, Violet Tulip, Hemlock, Paloma, Sand, Freesia, Cayenne, Celosia Orange, Radiant Orchid, Dazzling Blue, Purple Haze, Comfrey, & Magenta Purple.
*These colors come out to help stores and fashion designers, but if I was a bartender, I would already be practicing with ingredients for the “Purple Haze” cocktail for Spring 2014.
What colors will you be Rockin’ this Spring 2014? I know I’ll be looking for the Paloma and the other 49 shades of Grey.
Note to Oahu: Last year Ala Moana had their Fall Fashion Fun in September to coincide with Fashion’s Night Out. This year without FNO, Don’t fret yet, they just changed the dates a bit. Ala Moana will be doing their Fall Fashion Event October 4-6, 2013.
The Phones are Winning
I Forgot my Phone by Charlene deGuzman
Such a perfect time for me to see this Video. I’ve been meaning to tell you about a few absolutely crazy phone incidents in the last couple weeks & how appalled I’ve been over the same thing Charlene is showing everyone. People aren’t talking to each other in person. They just keep staring at their phones. And from my last couple of weeks, this trend seems to be escalating at enormous speeds!
Here’s my list of my MOST outrageous moments during the obliviation of in person human interaction in 2013 as the Mobile Phone takes over Everything:
- Two weeks ago, I walked to my car after work around 7:20 pm on a Friday night. I stopped at the Hawaii Theatre and witnessed this. 8 people staring at their phones on the sidewalk, all of which were with each other, all of which were NOT talking to each other, just staring at their phones. ONE friend of theirs following a few steps behind said “Oh My God, I should do something, what should I do, I guess I should take a picture of them or something” I just looked at him, rolled my eyeballs and said “yep, I guess you should” If it wasnt for him saying something, I would have thought it was a staged fake let’s make a joke moment, but it was real. In fact it was so real, the 8 people didn’t even see me walk by or HEAR their friend make his comment. They just kept staring at their phones. Friday Night in the Big City!
- Just a few days ago Senator McCain was caught playing poker on his smartphone during a 3.5 hour meeting. I know, that’s a long time for a meeting, but come on-Video Poker at an important meeting with important people discussing important subjucts? The cool thing was at least he didn’t try to deny it, he actually admitted to doing this!
- This past Sunday one of my Facebook “frends” wrote the following. “Just wanted to let everyone know, I will be not available and will be off the grid for the next hour while my phone re-charges” I was reading this sentence and figured he would say I will be off the grid for the next 6 hours or a day or two. But ONE frickin’ HOUR! OMG-Dude No one will miss you for an hour, trust me. Note: The guy was serious, he was NOT joking.
- And of course, the usual, people checking and nowadays actually writing back to texts during meetings at work. And people going out to eat and checking their phone more than chatting with each other. Me, I still am trying hard to just take a quick picture of the food if it looks tasty, then I put my phone on silent until the meal is over. That works for me. But, I’m also someone who loves to fly, because I get 10-12 hours away from my phone, get to relax, read, sleep, watch movies and chat to my seat mate. I don’t mind that at all.
- The last four Yoga classes I went to, I noticed 3 out of 4 people which is 75% of the people in the class. Couldn’t even make it down the stairs before they checked their phones! Even 6 months ago, it was less than half. And this is after a simple 1.2 hour Yoga class. That’s really not too long to be away from a phone .. especially on a Saturday.
The video above, isn’t really as funny as some people think, it is R-E-A-L life living in September 2013. I dare you to leave your phone at home on a Saturday or Sunday or even a Monday. I bet if you try it on a Monday, you may even take the car, train or walk back home to get it half way through your morning.
I’ve tried a couple of “No-Techno” Days in the last couple months and even I get a funny feeling that I’m missing something like my keys or my wallet. It’s a bit unsettling. But if you and I don’t try it we may end up like the 8 people standing on the street corner on a Happening Friday night in the BIG City, just staring at our phones, which we could just do at home without 7 other people with us.
What do you think? Will things go even further away from human interaction before we start to interact again? Will things keep going crazier with the Samsung Gear & the HOT watch to the point where we don’t talk to each other in person at all? or will the backlash happen? I may write a book or a screenplay on the future (The future being 2015) Where no one Talks to each other in person anymore, Could be a scary place, or it might just seem plain NORMAL to you .. hopefully not me..Hopefully..I don’t even know most of my FB and Twitter “Friends” Although, come to think of it, I do know a lot of my Instagram buddies, so I guess even I could just cruise on instagram if the world ends up without person to person human interaction. It could be possible. Yikes!
Have a Great Weekend! See you on the streetz of Oahu by Diamond Head, Makiki, Waikiki, Manoa, Downtown-Chinatown and hopefully Kailua.
Sky High Kicks
How and Why are those kicks up there?
Have you ever wondered Why you see shoes up on the power lines? This Video explains the oh so MANY reasons why kicks are in the sky. Where I live near Cartwright Park on Oahu,Hawaii I’ve never seen sneakers on the lines, I’ve seen them on shirts, a couple of times in L.A and Once in NYC. But, never in my neighborhood. I bet I start seeing them after more people see this vid and check out all the Shoe/Kick/Sneaker FITI sites out there. Do you have Kicks hanging in the sky where you live? If so, why are they there?
Now, I’m going to look for the video on how to best throw my kicks around the Line. Looks like it would take some skill, especially for those power lines many feet up in the sky. Have a nice Labor Day Weekend! Seee you on the streetz of Waikiki, Kaimuki, Hawaii Kai and Ala Moana this weekend. (Sept. 2013)
This is a pretty funny Jimmy Kimmel Video. He asks a bunch of people about designers that really don’t exist, check out their responses:
